Racster Dingwall sentenced today for trying to kill a legally-protected hen harrier. Dingwall, the twin brother of Molly Dingwall who is general manager of the Jockeys Club, was caught by covert filming carried out by the RSPB on Grassington Moor. Dingwall pleaded guilty to both offences today (Thursday 29 January 2026) at York Magistrates’ Court where he was ordered to pay a total of £1,520 in fines, victim surcharge and prosecution costs. This is a paltry punishment for the illegal persecution of our protected birds of prey, and whilst the prosecution is welcomed, what sort of deterrent is such a pathetic fine for these estates with such deep pockets? northyorkshire.police.uk/new… Image: BBC news.

If you want to have a look at a private landholding inside a national park with lots of wildlife on a tiny budget compared with public land and nature reserves you are all welcome to come and visit me here. And there are literally millions of acres in Scotland similar to me, privately owned, delivering for nature, and working with limited resources but working at scale with both private and public partners. It’s important to get the full story. That way we get it right going forward. So before everyone uses their biases to dis private landholdings, etc etc come and visit and get the fully story. Unless of course that spoils your tired trope narratives. Please don’t take my word for it though - visit and see for yourself. Then we can discuss.

thecanary.co/uk/analysis/202… Hunting with dogs has always been a pet hate of mine. It is disappointing (and disgraceful) when some police forces don't play their part in investigating what is mostly criminality.

🦊 The Wynnstay Hunt🦊 Hardwick hall - Ellesmere, Shropshire On Tuesday we decided to do something a little different & kept a low profile to keep an eye on the hunt. It got to around 2pm when we decided to show ourselves and the timing couldn’t have been better. We recorded this fox running out from a small area of trees, as they’d been disturbed …however the hounds luckily did not pick up on the line of the fox. This gave us time to run over and spray the line of the fox, which lead to a road where the fox crossed. Henry Bailey the huntsman was soon spotted with a few hounds next to the hunt support who had watched the fox bolt across the road and had clearly told Bailey the direction the fox ran. Before he had a chance to put the hounds on the line of the fox we showed Bailey footage of the fox and urged him to move his hounds on. This was in front of Cheshire Monitors who were filming the conversation and infront of the so called security/minders/ what ever they are…which meant Bailey had no other option than to make out he would leave the area. But temptations of wanting a kill couldn’t stop him, so he half heartedly encouraged the hounds to pick up on the scent and ‘accidentally’ ended up in the same wooded area which resulted the hounds rioting for around 30-40 minutes, totally unattended. Henry Bailey, Hartley Crouch, Archie Tulloch and a handful of others, went into a panic and caused the usual mayhem cantering up and down the road, because they had lost the pack .(footage to follow) This isn’t trail hunting and if we hadn’t seen that fox fleeing, Bailey would have hunted it straight away, so although he ended up in the same area…we are hopeful that the fox got to safety after a big head start. If you support what we do, you can donate towards our fuel and equipment costs if you follow our link below 🙏🏼🦊 ko-fi.com/wildlifeprotectors Thank you WBWP🖤

The ocean floor is slowly turning into a landfill For decades, most concern about ocean pollution has focused on floating plastic and waste washing up on beaches. However, scientists now warn that the largest buildup of debris is happening out of sight, deep beneath the ocean’s surface. A global review led by researchers at the University of Barcelona found that the seafloor is accumulating vast amounts of human-made waste, in some places at levels comparable to landfills. In the Strait of Messina, between Italy and Sicily, researchers documented over one million pieces of debris per square mile (around 400,000 per square kilometer), making it one of the most polluted seafloor regions ever recorded. Debris such as plastic bags, fishing nets, metal, glass, and discarded equipment does not simply sink straight down. Ocean currents, storms, and underwater canyons transport waste from coastlines into deep-sea basins thousands of feet below the surface. Plastics account for about 62% of seafloor litter and can travel long distances before settling. This is a global issue. Plastic has been discovered nearly 36,000 feet deep (about 10,900 meters) in the Mariana Trench, the deepest known point in the ocean. If current trends continue, scientists estimate the ocean could contain over 3 billion metric tons of waste within the next 30 years. The impact on marine life is severe. Nearly 700 marine species are affected by seafloor debris through entanglement, ingestion, or exposure to toxic chemicals. Abandoned fishing gear can continue trapping animals for decades, a process known as ghost fishing. Because this pollution occurs far from human view, it is often overlooked. But what sinks into the ocean does not vanish — it accumulates, persists, and alters ecosystems long after it disappears from sight. Read the study: “The quest for seafloor macrolitter: a critical review of background knowledge, current methods and future prospects.” Environmental Research Letters, 2021
