Pretty much everyone agrees that British politics is rotten. And yet in Westminster, a revolving door continues to exist whereby regulators, legislators, businesses and journalists exchange jobs between each other in a self-enriching merry-go-round which has become accepted as normal. Everyone knows it is happening yet few people speak out against it because if they do, they risk being ostracised from the cosy little club and find that their job options suddenly become limited. And who would be brave enough to do that, when they have mouths to feed? And so it goes on. A ex-MP joins a company board, a journalist becomes a lobbyist, a lobbyist becomes a Lord. Gifts and favours exchanged. The impact on the parliamentary process is corrosive. Trust in politics continues to fall. And yet the revolving door carries on.

Very happy Blackburn with Darwen council has joined the fight against gambling ads. "Gambling destroys lives.  Its impact is felt just as greatly as addictions to illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco" - @blackburndarwen This is a council that cares. theshuttle.org.uk/council-jo…

Andy Burnham has been one of the few political leaders who's taken the time to really engage with people harmed by gambling. He will make an excellent MP for Makerfield, says Derek Webb. labourlist.org/2026/05/makin…

Found myself in the curious position of defending the Gambling Commission (@GamRegGB) who have faced a torrent of misinformation from the lobbyists and racing about financial vulnerability checks that would be frictionless for all but 0.1% of accounts. #StormandAlexis

You Aren’t a Player, You’re the Product: How the Big Con Profits from Your Pain. JT Chapman exposes how the gambling industry wants gambling to be part of every aspect of your life—from your sports to your crypto prediction markets. But here’s the truth they won't tell you: there is NO winning for anyone except the people in charge. The only people better off are the app developers and the con men. We are watching the collapse of financial stability for millions of Americans. Not enough people are talking about it. COMMENT BELOW: Have you seen the impact of these apps in your community? It’s time to bring this conversation into the light and hold the gambling industry accountable once and for all. They are banking on the next generation of leaders in this country to fall for their scam. Help the next generation escape the new American nightmare before the harm is irreversible. Gambling advertising is a public health issue and responsibility should be transferred from DCMS to the Department of Health. Excellent from @BeccyCooper4Lab at yesterday’s debate in parliament.

Sorry stuff from @charliedewhirst who resisted calls for gambling reform today by referencing the hard time his friends in Big Tobacco have had - neglecting to mention the tickets he got to the Kebab awards from tobacco firm Philip Morris. @AlexBallingerMP put him right 👏

This is a detailed and powerful report on gambling advertising. Unlike the gambling industry's recent report it has been published and is open to public scrutiny. It should give the government all the impetus it needs to start taking action.
The APPG & @pgreform have published a new report on the impact of gambling advertising on children and young people. We highlight the £1.5-£2bn annual ad spend, risks to young people, and the need for stronger regulation. The case for reform is clear. linkedin.com/feed/update/urn…

Just hit 1m cumulative downloads on the Google Play Store. Usually that might be something to celebrate but every user is a person that has been negatively impacted by an out of control gambling industry. We will continue to ensure the voice and experience of our users is heard

News emanating from @DHSCgovuk about their handling of the statutory gambling levy is concerning. In @LabourList Derek Webb aptly sums up where the sector's got to. It's not the promised public health approach to gambling (yet!). labourlist.org/2026/04/polit…
