Active Travel Worthing have a seafront planter! 🥳 Working alongside other community groups & @adurandworthing teams the planter has been turned into an incredible feature on the prom, showcasing the passion members of this group have for promoting #activetravel in #worthing. 1/3
More than 10,000 people signed our letter to Transport Secretary @Mark_J_Harper, calling for fairer funding for active travel. Today we delivered it directly to Westminster, demanding the Government makes affordable #ActiveTravel options accessible to all.✊ #WeAreTheMovement

Welcome to #Worthing where less than one week after being installed our knackered, unrideable and worthless old bike has been stolen overnight from our planter. If seen please recover to the Coastal Office near the Lido and we'll collect and put it back where it belongs 👍
If we don’t invest more in making places safe, convenient and appealing to walk, wheel and cycle, people will keep driving, damaging health and increasing pressure on our NHS.

Great to see one of Worthing's MP's showing public support for active travel (@timloughton we are looking at you) but disappointing that we have yet to receive a reply to our letter sent to @PBottomleyMP about cuts to the active travel budget 1/2
However, as vocal as Sir Peter claims to be & as great as this photo op is, @WSCCNews has failed miserably for years to build anything close to safe, attractive infrastructure in #worthing. The time for platitudes is over - we demand high quality #activetravel infrastructure now!

With a few finishing touches the hope is the planter will convey the vision of the group & encourage people to consider #activetravel, spark some conversations & encourage new people to join the group. 2/3
A huge thanks to Jasmine & family for dedicating their time to getting this planter together and to Culberry Nursery in Angmering for donating plants to the garden. 3/3
The statistics for 20mph speed limits in Edinburgh speak for themselves; significant reduction in collisions yet journey times by car identical or even reduced. Is this the key to increasing #ActiveTravel in #Worthing and #WestSussex by making the roads safer?
Edinburgh became Scotland’s first 20mph (≈30kph) city in 2018, with nearly 90% of streets covered by the limit.
Within three years, overall speeds decreased 8%, collisions 30%, fatalities 31%, and air pollution 22%.
Journey times by car were identical or even slightly shorter.

Shoreham is experiencing the same issues as #Worthing with bike parking. In Broadwater recently 3 bike racks were damaged by vehicles & removed but won't replaced by @WSCCNews due to cost. More racks are needed across Worthing in key locations to support those who choose to cycle
Positive meeting with Cllr Evans & @WSCCNews/@adurandworthing officers – looking at need for more bike parking in central #Shoreham.
If councils work together on this, could be triple win: more secure bike parking; more visits to local businesses; less dangerous pavement parking.

Great to see #worthing so busy today as the #worthingfestival kicked off. Lots of people walking, wheeling & cycling with all sorts of bikes. Even spied @Rita4Tarring & @Catherine4Broa1 with their bikes 👍 however we def need more bike racks - all were full! 1/3
It was also clear that there needs to be more space for walking & wheeling, the prom was so busy but is still the only safe space to cycle, especially with kids, as the roads were so busy as usual 2/3
Good to also see the new @Donkey_Republic bikes dotted around and being ridden. Worthing is really coming along, great events & fantastic atmosphere, what a change over the last few years! 🥳 3/3
A WSCC spokesperson said: “The cycle markings have been introduced as part of a road safety scheme and follow a series of reports of cyclists having been struck by vehicles when joining the roundabout."
Perfect - paint will definitely help 🤦♀️
