Le gouvernement fédéral a enfin reconnu l’existence de la pratique de la tarification de surveillance, plusieurs mois après que le NPD ait tiré la sonnette d’alarme et suscité un débat national à ce sujet.
Mais le projet de loi n’interdit pas cette pratique inquiétante ; en fait, il ne la mentionne même pas nommément. Il se contente plutôt de promettre de vagues mesures réglementaires à l’avenir.
En revanche, le gouvernement néo-démocrate de Wab Kinew au Manitoba rend tout simplement cette pratique illégale. C’est la seule façon d’empêcher les géants de la technologie et les grandes chaînes d’épiceries de s’associer pour escroquer les consommateurs et consommatrices.
Nous avons mis cette question sur la table, et nous continuerons à faire pression sur le gouvernement pour qu’il agisse de manière décisive : le projet de loi d’aujourd’hui ne fait rien de concret pour protéger les Canadiens et Canadiennes contre cette menace bien réelle.
