The deliberate killings and abuse of locals by Chinese perpetrators have become a great threat to our collective survival and a major concern for maintaining peaceful coexistence. #ChineseMustGo bulawayo24.com/index-id-news…

🌑COMMUNITIES : near mining firms are suffering from diseases like pneumoconiosis —a deadly lung disease caused by inhaling fine mineral particles, yet they aren’t being tested or treated. Only some workers are screened—meanwhile, nearby residents remain exposed and neglected!

🌑 DEVASTATING: This is the state of most mines abandoned by Chinese firms. In other continents they behave, in Africa through kickbacks they do as they wish. Mining is the centre nerve of development. But here in Zimbabwe, it is BAD NEWS! It's always PLUNDER PLUNDER PLUNDER!

🌑 PLUNDER: They plunder our resources to nourish distant metropolises, while our communities remain underdeveloped, stripped of power, dignity, and justice. In Africa, a rent-seeking state is an obstacle to true liberation and sustainable development. THE TRAGEDY OF ENDOWMENT!

🌑 GHOST LAND : Hwange,a Chinese company mined coal then vanished. Now Deka River carries the poison of profit without conscience. When land is expendable, so are the lives it sustains. This isn’t development it’s DESTRUCTION. A state that chooses profit over people chooses ruin.

🎥 #ThrowbackThursday | #TBT 📅 September 26, 2024 📍 Harare, Zimbabwe 🚨 Report Launch Alert! “Investments or Plunder?” An Assessment of the Chinese Impacts in Zimbabwe's Extractive Sector 📘 An exposé by @CNRG_ZIM on Chinese investments in Zimbabwe's mining sector. The report highlights how Chinese mining ventures have led to widespread environmental degradation, disregard for the cultural rights of host communities, and, in many cases, the violation of the country’s labor laws, often with apparent impunity. 🔍 What we uncovered was staggering: 📉 Chinese investors now control 90% of Zimbabwe’s mining. 💰 $2.79 BILLION pumped into the sector in 2023 alone. 🛑 But at what cost? 📢 Key Findings: ⚠️ Illegal mining operations 🧾 🤝 Bribery of local leaders 🧍🏽‍♂️ 🌍 Environmental destruction 🌿 🧑🏿‍🤝‍🧑🏽 Community displacement & unrest 💥 Labour rights violations 📸 “These projects are found in all 64 districts of Zimbabwe, directly impacting millions of Zimbabweans. The stakes are incredibly high, as the consequences of these investments ripple through communities, affecting livelihoods, environmental sustainability, and social cohesion.” “These projects are everywhere—from Mutoko to Hwange—and they are rewriting the rules without consent.” — @FMaguwu, CNRG executive director. 📣 “This isn’t an investment. It’s modern-day plunder—enabled by silence and impunity.” — @tracymutoe ,CNRG senior programs officer. ⚖️ CNRG calls for: ✅ Stronger regulation ✅ Genuine community consultation ✅ Transparency & accountability ✅ Environmental & labour justice 🚨 The full report is available to the public. 🔗shorturl.at/a5JyB Let’s raise our voices for a just, sustainable future. 💬 Have your communities been impacted? Rising Fatalities in Zimbabwe’s Mining Sector The Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG) is deeply concerned by the rising number of fatal accidents in Zimbabwe’s mining sector, including recent tragedies at Jumbo Mine in Mazowe and Unki Platinum Mine in Shurugwi. On 17 April 2025, three miners lost their lives at the Starlake Claim, Jumbo Mine, after the rope of an electric hoist snapped, causing them to fall approximately 45 metres into a shaft. In a separate incident, a worker at Unki Platinum Mine—operated by #AngloAmerican and long regarded as a model for mining safety—was fatally crushed by a Load Haul Dump (LHD) machine, on 21 April, 2025. These incidents underscore a worrying trend: fatal accidents are now occurring even in mines previously known for strong safety standards. This points to systemic gaps in occupational health and safety enforcement, oversight, and compliance across the sector. We call on mining companies, @MinistryMines government regulators, and workers’ unions @ZimdiamondW @ZctuZimbabwe @MinersZmf to urgently review safety protocols, improve training, and invest in preventive measures. No one should lose their life in the pursuit of livelihood. #OHS #MineSafety

Tensions erupted at Sino Africa Huijin in Old Mutare today after security guards shot and killed Alfred Dodzo, an artisanal miner accused of stealing gold ore. Reports say he was shot multiple times in the face without warning shots. Angered by the killing, around 70 community members stormed the mine, attacking security guards and injuring mine manager Daniel Panganai, who had to be hospitalized. Police are investigating the incident. 📢 CNRG demands justice for Alfred Dodzo and an end to illegal gold trade and worker exploitation in Zimbabwe’s mining sector. #JusticeForAlfredDodzo #StopGoldSmuggling #MiningExploitation
