We just finished a collaborative project examining how Canada can better communicate public health information to people with intellectual disabilities and their families. This infographic has some highlights!
What are your thoughts on the findings?
ALT An infographic outlining how public health information can be better communicated to people with intellectual disabilities and their families. We know that access to information is a human right, and that people with intellectual disabilities get sick more often. We surveyed over 400 people to learn that information about COVID-19 vaccines were difficult to understand, overwhelming. We also heard from self advocates and family members that different formats work for different people. People like when resources use a variety of formats, say how their questions can be answered and why the information is important. Based on our findings, we recommend that the Public Healthy Agency of Canada (PHAC) follows our "Best Practices for Communication Public Healthy and Vaccine Information to Persons with Disabilities".

A beautiful message from a political advocate of the Anishinabek Nation! As those on our research team at Queen's University enter the long weekend, we take time to be grateful for traditional Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee territory on which we live, learn and play.

We're excited to hear this talk which sounds very relevant to our work in understanding how natural and formal #caregiving supports can be appropriately balanced in Canada!
