This is an actual tweet. I saw a screenshot, but had to look it up and see it with my own eyes.
I was excited to hear that President Trump is open to the idea of being the next Pope. This would truly be a dark horse candidate, but I would ask the papal conclave and Catholic faithful to keep an open mind about this possibility!   The first Pope-U.S. President combination has many upsides. Watching for white smoke…. Trump MMXXVIII!

There is an insidious idea that has crept into software through the open source movement, which is that software no longer being modified is "abandoned". It's very possible - even desirable - for software to simply be "finished". To serve its purpose reliably, as a tool should.

A trade deficit isn’t a “loss”—it’s not a scoreboard. It means we’re buying more goods than we sell, often because Americans can afford more, and our dollar is strong. Calling a deficit a “loss” is like saying you’re losing money at the grocery store because you bought dinner instead of selling it. The President of the United States thinking this way is reckless beyond belief. This isn’t how global economics works—and treating it like a zero-sum game is how you crash economies, kill jobs, and drive up prices for every American family. This isn’t tough negotiating. It’s economic malpractice—and we’re all going to pay for it.

The main thing here though is how quickly USA went into the trash bin. For all its flaws, and differences aside, I've always consider the US to be a strong and reliable ally. Now ... I just don't know. I've never been anti-american, but good lord, it's growing on me. 😞
A new opinion poll in Sweden shows that only 1% have a positive view of Russia. Proud to be Swedish.

There is increasing fear in Germany that F-35 jets purchased for the German army can be "turned off" remotely by Washington. This fear is shared by defense and security specialists. Joachim Schranzhofer, head of communications at Hensoldt: "The F-35 kill switch is not just a rumor. A simpler way is through a mission planning system that will not allow the fighter to land." Wolfgang Ischinger, former diplomat and head of the Munich Security Conference: "If we fear that the US could do the same to the German F-35 fighter jets as they did to Ukraine, we should consider canceling the contract." Is this normal in your countries? A president that continues to lie even if he has been corrected a hundred times on these numbers. In Denmark, people dont like being told lies. Voters punish it. Why do Americans accept and vote for it? I dont get it.

Essentially, this means that buying and using American technology becomes a national security issue - you can never know when The Donald decides that your country treats America very, very badly and decides to twist your arms in violation of everything that can be violated. Trust and credibility is everything in alliances, and now they are gone.
America cut a key intel link for alerts at 2pm Kyiv. Before that: targeting data for HIMARS. Ukraine also isn’t receiving realtime information for long-range strikes. “Trump wanted a thank you,” says a source. “We will be writing it on graves of dead Ukrainians”

Well Europe, time to take a deep breath, hitch up your pants, roll up your sleeves, and do everything you can to help Ukraine. No one else will. Its not only their freedom on the line--its yours too.

What this means is American satellites will see Russian bombers carrying missiles taking off, bound for Ukrainian hospitals, power and transport infrastructure, and they will intentionally choose to sit on their hands rather than warn them it’s coming.
Immediate impacts from the total US shutdown of intelligence sharing to Ukraine will be wide-ranging, but Russian air strikes targeting civilian infrastructure will likely become more effective. Comes at a time when the US has cut Ukraine off from air defense supplies.

This is complete nonsense. In 1994, Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees from the U.S., Russia, and Europe. Neither the U.S. nor Europe actually fulfilled those guarantees, we didn’t fight for Ukraine, we only sent weapons and money. Let’s not pretend the U.S. has no responsibility here. Either uphold the promise, or give Ukraine its nukes back.

In the fall of 1972, President Nixon announced that "the rate of increase of inflation was decreasing". Probably the first time a sitting president used the 3rd derivative to increase the chances of reelection.
