Mr @ageony , a Senior Patent Examiner at the @URSBHQ highlighted the urgent need for improved data collection and integration to enhance Uganda's innovation landscape. He emphasized that missing and outdated data, especially regarding government funding for education and research, significantly hampered the country's progress. Uganda's ranking had declined from 99 in 2016 to 191 in 2024. “Without reliable data, we cannot accurately assess our progress or identify areas that need improvement,” Mr. Ageet stated. Although Uganda has strong institutional frameworks and effective environmental management, it struggles to balance innovation inputs and outputs, often achieving better results in investments than in tangible outcomes. To address these challenges, Mr. Ageet advocates for the establishment of a national data-sharing platform and stronger collaboration between academia and industry. During the 2024 Health Innovations Conference in Kampala, Uganda, we had a fantastic session on "Intellectual Property: Fast-tracking innovations to commercialisation: The role of #IP". The interactive session fostered a vibrant discussion on how innovators can leverage IP strategies to accelerate the journey of their health solutions from concept to market.
