We were glad to support Ebola awareness through a radio talk show on Etop Radio and training of health workers in Teso. As Soroti lies along a key travel corridor connecting Uganda to DR Congo and S. Sudan, community education and timely information are critical in prevention

Yesterday I visited Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where a separate unit has been prepared to treat #Ebola patients. I'm glad for the opportunity to meet with health workers in charge and thank them for their dedication. I am very happy with all the work invested in preparedness and readiness that I have witnessed. I commend the Government of #Uganda for the work being done to control Ebola and provide care for those affected. Uganda’s leadership has been central to the response, and @WHO remains committed to supporting national efforts to stop transmission, save lives and protect communities. Mwebale nnyo.

Radio talk show takes place in Etop radio on Ebola awareness by Iteso Cultural Development Foundation in Soroti
I met with the World Health Organization Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who called on me at State House Entebbe. We discussed the Ebola outbreak in the region and the measures needed to strengthen prevention and response efforts. I stressed the importance of community awareness, early detection, and cross-border collaboration. Uganda has experience in mobilizing communities to confront public health challenges, as we did during the fight against HIV/AIDS. Through science, leadership, and cooperation with partners such as WHO, we can continue to protect our people and strengthen regional health security.

Thank you for recognizing Uganda’s response to the Ebola outbreak. As the AIC we have supported preparedness efforts by training health workers along the Teso travel corridor connecting to DRC, strengthening surveillance, infection prevention, and community awareness.
I am in #Uganda, where the government has mounted a prompt and capable response to the outbreak of #Ebola. Screening at the borders helped detect cases arriving from neighbouring #DRC, and the country’s surveillance, testing and case management systems are doing steady work. Of the 19 confirmed cases so far, 14 were among people who entered from DRC and five are Ugandan nationals. Sadly, two people from DRC have died, and our thoughts are with their families. @WHO is supporting Uganda, alongside @AfricaCDC and partners across the region, as the country leads this response. With continued collaboration, I am confident this outbreak can be brought under control.
