Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology: What happened in the 2023 Match?
@TheNRMP More programs than ever (n=73; n=127 positions offered) want to train advanced HF specialists, but the interest is flat (n=71 positions filled). A small number (n=28) of large fairly homogeneous programs will train heart transplant specialists. These future graduates will look for jobs in similar large homogenous hospital systems, many of which are already saturated and have no positions to offer. Some will be frustrated when they don't get this type of job. My hope instead is that HF graduates look beyond and recognize that there are n=6500 hospitals in the United States, and many are desperate to hire visionary leaders and HF program builders. Here is my plea: Please be brave and take those real-world jobs. Millions of patients with HF will never meet a specialist HF cardiologist.
