One of our expressions is the lower down the ballot, the closer to your life. Municipal leaders can actually *do* shit about housing, child care, transportation, and the friction (or ease) you experience every day. People feel it when it's good -- and get furious when it's bad.
A generation ago, Giuliani and then Bloomberg set a template for city governance and urban revival that spread through the US and around the globe, lasting for decades. We may be seeing the arrival of a new paradigm—America's biggest cities turning left.
