Who brought them in? KERAJAAN Who has failed to come up with controls and plans for the refugees when we let them in? KERAJAAN Who needs to clean up the mess? KERAJAAN Who needs to pressure Myanmar more to stop their genocide of Rohingya? KERAJAAN. Semua tanggungjawab KERAJAAN.

Then how come do we have 120k UNHCR-registered Rohingyas in Malaysia today? And that’s excluding unregistered. Malaysia is not even a signatory to the Refugees Convention, yet we still provided refuge on the understanding that it would be a temporary transit before resettlement elsewhere. After 2-3 decades, I think it’s fair to ask at what point does ‘temporary’ stop being temporary?
Replying to @DillSnelling
We didn't "welcome" them because we don't formally acknowledge refugee status and have a framework for it. Why are you talking about citizenship? There is no pathway for that.

I don’t blame the Rohingyas. They’re fleeing persecution and trying to build a better life. My frustration is with the Malaysian govt and UNHCR. A temporary arrangement has dragged on for DECADES with no clear long-term solution. Of course, the root cause remains Myanmar. We should pressure Myanmar more to stop the persecution, recognise Rohingya and allow them to return home safely.

Such a boomer mentality /financialfaiz. If EL is for a valid reason, what’s the issue? Heck, I don’t even question my staff about taking AL/EL. For longer leave, we just discuss deliverables beforehand and sort out who’ll cover their work while they’re away.
Jap lagi keluar la alasan kesihatan mental merosot. Six seven sungguh.

And usually companies have compassionate leave (CL) which is separate from AL. CL is normally given when there’s a death in the immediate family e.g. spouse, child, parents.

Cutting health budget to support fuel subsidies is MADNESS 🤯 KKM is already underfunded, with staff feeling overwhelmed and being stretched to their limits. Kau nak potong bajet lagi? Siapa kat MOF yg pi suggest idea bodoh ni??

Singapore believes in rules but prefers not to argue with those who write them and ignore them at their own convenience. These rules only apply to the underdogs. Where was this clarity when wars were launched, sanctions imposed, and entire regions destabilised? This hypocrisy is revolting.
Singapore's Foreign Minister explained why he could not accept negotiating with Iran for the safe passage of ships. He was explaining the importance of the Strait of Malacca as example:

I suspect the real reason for Singapore's opposition to a toll on Hormuz is not some high-minded devotion to international law, but because if it's set as a precedent and a toll were to exist on the Strait of Malacca, it would basically kill their current business model. See, geographically speaking, Malacca runs primarily between Malaysia and Indonesia - Singapore only controls a small stretch at the southeastern exit. Yet currently they capture most of the strait's commercial value through port services, bunkering, and transshipment: it's basically like them having the best "service station" on the world's most popular free highway. What the Hormuz precedent - if established - is all about is the revenge of geography: power given back to the countries that own the road, as opposed to those with the best rest-stop. Fantastic news for Malaysia and Indonesia (which is partly why you're seeing key Malaysian political figures, like Nurul Izzah Anwar, issue a highly unusual rebuke of Singapore over Balakrishnan’s remarks: x.com/amerhadiazmi/status/20…), but a big threat to a city-state whose entire economy is built on being the best service provider on what's largely someone else's waterway.

Singapore’s Foreign Minister on why he cannot accept negotiating with Iran for safe passage of ships. Definitely worth listening to:

I once had a manager who didn't do any work with his hands, but only strategized. I did most of the reports and calculations for him. He made me do all the work, but also made sure he pulled me into all the meetings where these reports were presented and ensured everybody knew I did it, letting me handle the same. He gave me a very valuable message: "Even if you work at your max potential, you can't put in more than 16 hours of work in a day. But a good leader is not expected to be hands-on; he can make 100 or 200 people productive under him." The transition from an IC to a leader is not easy. It is always simpler to get things done by yourself without making mistakes. But building a team that can do things as fast and accurately as you is challenging. You also have to trust them and let them handle their tasks. You grow as a leader when your team members grow as well.
