In this episode of Our Lovely Friends, writer and director Anu Singh Chaudhary joins Outlook Editor Chinki Sinha for an intimate conversation on the “hero’s journey” versus the “heroine’s journey”. While one is outward and performative, shaped by male economics that ties love to achievement and visibility, the other is inward and deeply introspective. Drawing from her childhood in ’90s Bihar, she reflects on sisterhood, resistance, and the quiet strength of standing together in the face of political and social turmoil. Netflix’s original series DELHI CRIME 3 is a dark, hard-hitting, gut-wrenching, engaging & edge-of-the seat crime investigative thriller that kept me hooked from start to end throughout its 6 episodes each of which are appx 45-50 mins in duration. Written & directed by @Chopsfilms along with co-writers @anusinghc @tomsawyerk23 @swarup_shubhra @apoorva_bakshi & Michael Hogan, DELHI CRIME 3 is set in 2015 and depicts how DIG Vartika Chaturvedi (played brilliantly by #ShefaliShah ) along with her Special Task Force team cracks down a nexus of human trafficking led by the unscrupulous Badi Didi (played superbly by @humasqureshi ) across several states of India. There is also a parallel sub-plot involving the shocking assault & subsequent abandonment of a 2-year-old baby girl who is left in a critical state at the AIIMS hospital in Delhi by a mysterious woman. How these 2 cases get intertwined forms the crux of #DelhiCrime3 which is a brilliantly made show in every aspect. The writing & direction by @Chopsfilms along with the aforementioned team of co-writers is excellent & keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to end with each episode having a cliff-hanger ending. The editing by @AntaraLahiri @mnsmitl & Parikshit Jha is tight as you never feel that the show is being stretched unnecessarily. The cinematography by Johan Aidt and Eric Wunder Lin is excellent taking you on a dark journey from one city of India to another while the BG score by Ceiri Torjussen suits the mood of the show building up tension at all the right moments. Special shout-out to the casting by @CastingChhabra who once again scouts such fine actors each of whom are pitch-perfect in their respective roles. Leading the pack is of-course #ShefaliShah who is phenomenal as DIG Vartika Chaturvedi & conveys a wide range of emotions & expressions in the most authentic manner. @RasikaDugal (as ACP Neeti Singh) is terrific too & gets a solid, meaty role which she aces like a Pro. However, the show stealer in #DelhiCrime3 has gotto be @humasqureshi who is fantastic playing a despicable character that you will love to hate. Huma (as Badi Didi) is unabashedly ruthless & menacing, delivering one of her career best performances in this one. Among the other new additions to the cast this season, @sayanigupta (who plays Kusum) & Mita Vasisht (who plays Kalyani) are superb in their respective roles with Mita having a creepy & chilling screen presence. @Anshumaanpushk1 (who plays Rahul & who you may remember from 12th FAIL) is very good too as is Aditi Subedi (who plays his wife Khushi). I was also mighty impressed with @realyukti who plays ASI Simran & totally nails her part getting the Haryvanvi accent bang-on. @kellydorji (as John) and Sano Di Nesh (as Vijay) are decent at best. Familiar actors & characters from the earlier 2 seasons of DELHI CRIME such as @rajeshtailang (as Inspector Bhupendra), Anuraag Arora (as Sub-Inspector Jairaj), @thegopaldatt (as Sudhir), @Sidhaaarthh (as SHO Subhash), Jaya Bhattacharya (as Sub-Inspector Vimla), @DenzilLSmith (as Shefali’s husband ACP Vishal Chaturvedi), @Yashaswini__ (as Shefali’s young daughter Chandni) & Aakash Dahiya (as Rasika’s husband) also do well in their respective roles but get limited scope. Overall, #DelhiCrime3 on @NetflixIndia is an absolute must-watch for its gripping screenplay, taut direction by Tanuj Chopra and terrific performances by the entire cast. In a day & age where most web-shows start dipping badly after 1 or 2 seasons, I have to say that DELHI CRIME continues to be one of those rare web-series which hardly dips from one season to another which is why I rank this show among my Top 3 Indian web-shows till date. Kudos to @GoldenKaravan @skglobalent for backing this one.
