Why are there so many big cats (lions, tigers, jaguars, panthers, cheetahs, leopards, etc.) but such few big dogs (wolves, maybe foxes although they’re still pretty small)?

Math folks on the TL - can someone help me understand why the Borel set on the real line is not equivalent to the power set? I've been trying to think of a counter example and can't seem to construct one.

Books are always the best gift, thanks @LincolnPlsek! A number calls me enough times, I’ll answer it just to see who it is. This book’s been knocking on my door through enough conversations over the last couple weeks for me to give it a shot. Biases going in: love the message, strongly skeptical of the “science”. Let’s see how that changes.

It's like if you answered the "if you had a time machine would you change something?" question with anything but "No everything happens for a reason", people look at you like you just called Voldemort out by name. Like yeah of course I'd change some stuff 😂

I'd bet it's not that younger folks don't have regrets but that we just assume that we have enough time to correct them and it'll be like the wrong turns never happened. So why acknowledge them in the first place?

Not enough people in their twenties are going to watch or appreciate Johnny Manziel's episode on @ClubShayShay but they really should.

Mandatory Consciousness Comment: There's far too many eerie anecdotes I have at this point about the collective consciousness of the walks but here's another one. I'd never heard of this Map until 10:30AM this same Saturday when @ellebeecher introduced it to me. By the end of the day, I was left with two interpretations (from Elle and Lincoln) on the meaning of the phrase "elevate your consciousness". Going to read the book this week and see if I can come up with a third.

I had this conversation on the @theboardtalks a couple weeks ago about how easy it is to limit yourself by believing that you're not the kind of person who does *insert thing here*. I've been sitting with that thought since then and after four hours on a plane with a dead laptop, have managed to mold it into a line of questioning that I fully intend to bug all my friends with. Am I unknowingly following a script? If so, who's writing it? Who has cast me into the archetype that I believe myself to be a part of? And why does it have an almost corrupted main character energy where the actor has no idea where the directions are coming from? Where is the line between being authentic and typecasting yourself into a role? What even is a "core" personality? Throwing this out on Twitter in case anyone wants to jam before this week's walks!

Been a while since I've put one of these out (for no good reason). The clarity that reflecting on the topics brings me is something I've missed a lot so bringing it back with some killer conversation highlights from last week: 1. Algorithmic decision making, human biases vs. bayesian priors, and the unreasonable effectiveness of AI. 2. Wellness, the parallels between sleep and cybersecurity, and gender stereotypes surrounding journalling. 3. If you walked into a room and there stood every single person you had ever met in your entire life, who is the first person you would look for? Every Saturday, 8AM. Come join us!

"There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened before." Willa Cather's words come closest to describing what this week's walk left me with. There's something nostalgic about encountering forgotten ideas as they return home on a path you've never walked before. The highlights: 1. Stories, narratives, and the voyeuristic nature of cinema. 2. Spirituality, science, and reconciling faith with reason. 3. Conversations, trusting yourself, and building confidence with reps. Saturdays at 8AM, come join us!
