@Austal Vietnam was proud to host representatives from the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and Journey Beyond for the official plate cutting ceremony of Hull 431 in Vung Tau, on 1st December.
Following a traditional blessing and a symbolic offering of incense for good luck, Australian Ambassador Her Excellency Gillian Bird PSM pushed the button on the CNC machine to start cutting the very first piece of aluminium on the new 35-metre catamaran for Cruise Whitsundays ; designed by
@incatcrowther and constructed by Austal Vietnam.
The Austal Vietnam
#team were pleased to welcome:
• Mr Barry O'Meara, General Manager Marine & Aviation Assets, Journey Beyond (parent company of Cruise Whitsundays)
• Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Her Excellency Gillian Bird PSM
• Australia’s Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms Sarah Hooper, and
• Consul (Economics), Australian Consulate General, Ho Chi Minh City, Mr Kayzad Namdarian
Following the ceremony, guests toured Austal Vietnam’s world-class shipbuilding facilities, including a look at ‘Dory 2’ (Austal Hull 426), under construction for The Degage Group of French Polynesia, and now preparing for launch.
@cruisewhit's new 35-metre aluminium catamaran, scheduled for delivery in December 2026, will have a capacity for 390 passengers and 10 crew - and operate scheduled resort connections from Airlie Beach, to both Daydream and Hamilton Islands in the Whitsundays, off the Central Queensland coast of Australia.
