On this day in history, the iconic Golden Gate Bridge welcomed its first travelers.
The bridge opened to pedestrians on May 27, 1937, and to vehicles the next day, becoming one of the most recognized landmarks in America.
Today, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area serves as the gateway to where visitors can explore scenic trails, beaches, historic sites, wildlife viewing, biking, paddling, and sweeping Pacific Ocean views.
