it's like peter molyneux is still here with us in spirit
Fable NPC system is so sophisticated the devs are calling it a "life simulator" You build reputation through your actions in the game, then each NPC has a different opinion of you based on your reputation. You might have to become a rich business owner to impress and date one of the NPCs in the game, but another NPC will hate you for being so rich. As a consequence, that NPC could increase the prices on their merchandise when you visit their store. Even small actions such as giving money to the homeless or evicting people out of their houses will impact your reputation, and this can be done at a very large scale, because you could: - Buy every home in the world of Fable - Evict everyone out of their homes - Have every NPC now live on the street Possibilities are quite literally endless here

this is obviously true but notice this person doesn't say anything about how good the game is
โ€œโ€โ€โ€Stardew Valleyโ€โ€โ€โ€ is pastoralist Wehrbauer propaganda. When you play it, Heidegger smiles, and his greatest disciple, Adolf Hitler, smiles with him.

banana is stupid but this just reflects poorly on the band. cannot imagine caring enough about a banana costume to do this
Some asshole wore a banana costume to an End It show in Toronto. The lead singer called the guy up to the stage & then called him an asshole & told everyone to rip his costume off lmao. It took like 30 seconds. "You wanted the attention & now you have it" ๐Ÿ˜‚

not even joking, Knocked Loose as a band name has like twice as much aura as 99% of hardcore or metalcore band names and that adds way more to their popularity that people are willing to admit

see i keep telling people backrooms would've been way better with less worldbuilding but ALSO less themes and symbols. should have just been 120 minutes of wandering strange geometry while occasionally hearing unsettling noises. i shouldn't have even known the characters' names
Seeing the way people have been talking about TADC and Backrooms has convinced me that โ€œloreโ€ is the enemy in storytelling right now, people demand you focus on needless worldbuilding and not just tell a meaningful story with themes and symbols you can apply to life itself.

god i'm honestly happy i'm mostly into movies and anime nowadays cause the video game industry is so fucking cooked it's not even funny. and the worst part is that so many gamers seem completely fine with it, they call YOU a moron if you don't like the shit being put out

actually this movie should have had 95% less subtext and themes and should have been 120 minutes of people walking around aimlessly with nothing happening. i would have enjoyed that a lot more
Reading reactions to The Backrooms complaining, โ€œthis movie is just people walking around aimlessly and nothing happensโ€ is really frustrating. Subtext and themes mean nothing to the average moviegoer, everything has to be explicitly explained or shown instead of actually requiring thought. Really sad to see how literacy has taken a dive in the younger generations. Itโ€™s not a perfect film, there are definitely critiques that I have for it. However, the themes of past trauma, not being able to save everyone, letting go, reliving nightmares in our minds are all there and presented in a thought provoking manner. The film makes you feel like youโ€™re literally stuck in a nightmare of a memory of a memory. I guess people just want jump scares every five minutes and everyone to be happy at the end. Not everything needs to be explained, surrealism in film often times is meant to simply make you FEEL and THINK without really offering explanations. Thatโ€™s something the film does well. Artistic films that prioritize atmosphere, subtext, and emotional immersion over plot momentum will always frustrate audiences expecting conventional storytelling. This tension has existed for decades, films like 2001: A Space Odyssey or Eraserhead, The Backrooms leans heavily into liminal-space dread, psychological repetition, and unresolved unease. Complaining that โ€œnothing happensโ€ misses the entire point of the movie and is either a bad-faith argument or an ignorant one.

okay but the last half of the movie was rushed and it has bad dialogue, what do you want me to say
people hating backrooms because itโ€™s โ€œpoorly pacedโ€ and โ€œhas weird dialogueโ€

that's because zohran is /ourguy/, no matter how much the NIMBYs wish he wasn't
May 28
Zohran just cited Minneapolis, Austin, and Auckland as cities that lowered housing costs via upzoning certified ball knowledge, Auckland is a deep YIMBY cut

gamers be like: 4X games (which stands for Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate btw) is just like colonialism... waow... the profundity of it...
crazy how just a little bit of reading into postcolonial game studies reveals how often games will casually reproduce imperialist attitudes; stuff like fog of war mechanics, resource extraction loops, civilized vs barbarian binaries, etc... it's everywhere

And they're better off for it. BG3s romance sucks, and Obsidian has made like 4 better games than anything Larian has made (and yes, I'm talking about f:nv and newer Obsidian). Romance can be done well in games, BG3 is not an example of it.
RPG developer Josh Sawyer says Obsidian Entertainment is not against romance systems like the ones in Baldurโ€™s Gate 3. He explained that these features take a huge amount of time, money, and work to create properly. โ€œItโ€™s not like an opposition to their existence,โ€ Sawyer said. โ€œItโ€™s just that I donโ€™t know if weโ€™re going to be able to do it.โ€ Sawyer said romance systems need a lot of extra writing, voice acting, cutscenes, and character reactions. Because of this, Obsidian would rather focus on other parts of a game instead of adding romances that feel incomplete or low quality. He also said players now expect romance content to be as detailed as Baldurโ€™s Gate 3, which raised the standard for RPG games. Sawyer added that Obsidian still cares about emotional stories and character relationships.

It's very frustrating that people see widespread cheap food delivery, a la China, as a sign of prosperity. It's the opposite! Rich countries donโ€™t have millions of people willing to spend their time bringing you lunch for basically nothing!

As far as the pricey lunch shit goes the reality is it's just about how lazy you are. There have been years in my life where I make a really good curry or stir-fry every Sunday and eat it for the entire week and I'm happy about it. 1/2

Other times (like right now) I never feel like cooking despite having time for it and I just eat out a lot. I shouldn't, but I do, because I'm lazy.
