Zohran Mamdani is being heckled right now at a press conference in Brooklyn, NY, by someone whose words I can't hear, but watch how he's dealing with it. Mamdani has the unique skill of knowing how to handle and walk into every room and engage with people, no matter how toxic they are or how their feelings are against him. And many times, make them feel heard. Elected officials, nonprofit and religious leaders, advocates, and activists on both sides of the political spectrum who met with him told me that. Don't take my word for it, President Trump is pretty public about it. That's why he's currently the mayor of New York City. If you don't like his politics or you're like me, who opposed his candidacy and is still troubled by some of his actions and statements, then don't take this post the wrong way; read into it how you should be better to communicate your message. Yes, putting ego aside for any public figure is not easy.

It's so funny to look at these figures. Huang would have to pay a one-time $7 billion sum on $155 billion fortune. "Who cares" is absolutely the appropriate reaction. It means nothing to him. David Sacks types look like the biggest babies in the world.

You could chose your leftism to be identified with A) Build tons of cool fast trains and airports and affordable homes or B) Use a lot of weird words no one understands and ABOLISH COPS and 'eating bananas is actually colonialism.' One of the above works

Saikat Chakrabarti — AOC's fmr chief — isn't like other progressives: He's extremely wealthy. He's worth at least $167 million per his financial dsiclosure. He may be wealthier than Nancy Pelosi, who he's running to unseat in SF. I asked him about that. Here's what he told me:

This dropped hearing aid prices by 90% . Countless people who couldn’t afford hearing aids can hear now. Biden has done a ton of stuff like this. Don’t listen to the doomposters who tell you it doesn’t matter who’s in office. It does.
This Apple hearing aid feature exists because the government broke a hearing aid cartel with an FDA rule whitehouse.gov/briefing-room…

Not really a milestone, but a staggering statistic: @Bruce_Power, the most productive thermal power plant on earth, has now produced, as of the end of 2023, 1,564.6TWh of electricity. It was the first plant to hit 1PWh, ahead of Gravelines in France, and once uprated to over 7,000MW, will be even more productive, not to mention the potential addition of up to 4,800MW of capacity at Bruce C, pushing it over 11,000MW nameplate, making it the largest thermal plant ever constructed.

damn good thing they'll have all the proceeds from that **second home** to fall back on
It turns out 10% of CDN families own 2nd homes. That's over 1 million families. When you die, that non-principal residence is "deemed" to have been sold at fair market value and you get taxed on the gain. So the new cap gains rate probably affects >10% of families. See link

Wow wild how all the entrepreneurs in California are taking base hits over big swings because the capital gains tax rate.
17 Apr 2024
people keep posting that capital gains in Canada are now 67% Nope. Cap Gains are now taxed at 67% OF YOUR TAX RATE (beyond $250k), up from 50% Depends on where you live and how much you make but in most cases you will pay less capital gains in Canada than in California.

Anyone critiquing the new capital gains tax rates should take a look at the lifetime capital gains exemption... Hysteria over a policy that will exclusively impact the 0.01% of richest Canadians.

The new @Forbes 2024 World Billionaire list just dropped and Canada has 67 families on the list. Our new @SocialCP report, 'Billionaire Blindspot' helps explain why - sadly - none of them will be captured by StatsCan in their wealth survey. Read here!👇 socialcapitalpartners.ca/scp…

Massive news out of today's FES for employee-ownership. With the addition of tax incentives announced today, the government now has a package that will meaningfully shift ownership of companies to Canadian workers.
Replying to @cafreeland
@cafreeland's Fall Economic Statement marks a watershed moment for employee ownership in Canada. Starting in Jan 2024, a new made-in-Canada Employee Ownership Trust will help workers across the country build wealth and keep jobs in local communities.

Very well said
The two metrics that governments are ignoring at their own peril: 1. Upward mobility 2. Rates of food bank usage People feel the social contract is breaking. No amount of touting GDP/FDI growth matters while those two are getting worse. www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/…
