Very excited to see our work on developing a bilingual speech neuroprosthesis out today in @natBME ! Thanks to our dedicated participant β€œPancho” for making this happen! We put together a summary of the results below
Excited to share our work on developing a bilingual speech neuroprosthesis that decodes cortical activity into English and Spanish sentences in a person with paralysis. Out today in @natBME! nature.com/articles/s41551-0…

I'm beyond thrilled to have matched @NeurosurgUCSF, and I can't wait to join the incredible group of residents & faculty from whom I learned so much last summer on my sub-I! This wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, friends, and mentors.
We're so excited to welcome the newest members of @UCSF Neurosurgery! Congratulations to John Bernabei, MD, PhD (@bernabei_john) , Sravani Kondapavulur, MD, PhD (@skondapavulur), and Mahmoud Elguindy, MD, PhD (@notinthemoud) πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ #Match2023 #MatchDay #Neurosurgery

It is our hope that in the coming years many of the methods we highlight here will undergo prospective clinical studies to support their ability to accurately localize the epileptogenic zone and improve epilepsy surgery planning. 6/7

Bernabei et al. construct an atlas of normative interictal intracranial EEG recordings, and show that brain regions that generate spikes and seizures display patterns of activity and connectivity that deviate from those seen in the atlas. bit.ly/3m2HQho

We found that quantitative abnormalities in interictal activity and connectivity were higher in regions which generated spikes and seizures compared to uninvolved brain and used a random forest model to predict epileptogenicity based on these two groups of features.
