I miss the era when you’d spend days researching and tweaking an algorithm (even a simple one) just for that deep satisfaction of figuring it out yourself. Now LLMs do it in seconds. Sure, you can refuse to use them… but it feels like a self-imposed handicap, especially when deadlines are breathing down your neck.

I'm glad that we got Doom 95, but I always wished they would have created a MoM 95. I'm not going back to Win 9x now, but my Master of Magic remake is running on a Windows XP VM.

I saw a tweet a while ago about developing retro games *inside* actual retro environments (like Windows 95) for maximum authenticity, then compiling them on modern systems. Well... I tested that. A simple spinning triangle written in Windows 95 using Visual C 6.0 OpenGL 1.1. Zero code changes. Compiled and runs perfectly on Windows 10/11 with Visual Studio 2026. Reject modernity. There are more ways to die in space than anywhere else in #Ultima. The funny part is that if you die in space, Lord British won’t revive you. In the original Apple II version, the game would just soft-lock in an infinite loop and you’d have to force-shut down the computer. Wondering if I should keep that “permadeath in space” behavior in Open Sosaria (minus the PC force shutdown, obviously) or add a small QoL option to let players revive somehow. #indiedev #gamedev

Just finished a fully playable Tower of Hanoi in pure x86_64 NASM on Linux. Flat 45-byte peg array, rep movsb board rendering, real move validation undo, victory detection, all hand-rolled syscalls. No libc, obviously. Why? 🤷‍♂️ Because sometimes you just need to make the computer suffer with you. #Assembly #NASM #x86_64 #LowLevel

I've been diving into x86_64 Assembly lately (because God knows I didn't have enough distractions from my games already 😅). Surprisingly, I'm really enjoying it! In the original Ultima, fighting a Mind Whipper would drop your Intelligence by 60%… then add 5. So if you had 10 INT, you’d end up with 11. You were so dumb that the Mind Whipper literally made you smarter. 😂 #indiedev #gamedev #Ultima #OpenSosaria
