on sept 15 2008, lehman brothers collapsed and gave the whole world a reason to believe in $BTC on june 12 2026, a single government order forced anthropic to pull its most capable models offline for every foreign national on earth, and gave the whole world a reason to believe in bittensor:native humans only react to negative things. sad but true. in 2008 we learned the banks were the problem. in 2026 we’ll learn that one kill switch sitting inside a centralised AI lab is the problem.

Two massive implications from the US/Anthropic directive: (1) Mandated KYC coming for usage of Ant models (2) Non-Americans are/will be gate-kept from building/using the most capable version of the most important technology of (at least) our lifetimes What do you think the Governments, Sovereign Nations, and billions of people who are being left behind here are going to do? They’ll find a new, alternative technology stack with different properties from the system they’re being pushed out of, where they can build/use AI. By definition, it will have to be something that allows them to coordinate on a global scale, all without necessarily trusting one another. To that last point, the technology will have to be built to work even in the most adversarial of conditions. The good news is that this technology stack already exists. It goes by many names: • Blockchain • Decentralized Networks • Decentralized Information Networks, Incentivized via Token (h/t @cburniske) • Computers that can make commitments (h/t @cdixon) • Token Incentivized Computing (h/t @const_reborn) Call it whatever you want, but it should come as no surprise, as we've seen the first use case of this technology emerge and come to fruition over the last ~2 decades now. The same will inevitably come to pass for AI, although there's good reason to assume it's now on an accelerated path. Buckle up.

Something everyone should understand about IOTA is that the technical team is made up of PhDs who studied directly under AI revolutionaries, the same ones who are now household names in the industry. The challenge IOTA is tackling is profoundly complex and intellectually stimulating. That's half the picture. The other half is that it's spiritually aligned with the egalitarian vision for AI that the field has slowly strayed from in recent years: "His final points framed his entire conversation. AI is meant for human flourishing. That’s what distributed technologies are trying to do: give people the autonomy to build their own collective systems that serve them. The field has an egalitarian streak, one that’s been slowly forgotten in the frenzy of continuous breakthroughs. But when developers remember this as their north star, that’s when we really benefit. Alan asked who’s going to protect the people? I don’t think he noticed that, as of right now, he’s one of them." Crypto has also strayed too far from its founding ideals. We've traded rebellion against a global financial system that bails out corporations at everyone else's expense for Bitcoin ETFs and 'institutional adoption' by the very institutions Bitcoin was built to replace. Decentralized AI is now offering us an opportunity to absolve ourselves of this philosophical betrayal and refocus on what matters: returning power to the people. In other words, Bittensor fixes this.
Our AI Research Lead, Dr. Alan Aboudib, has been instrumental in building @IOTA_SN9 and launching Orion-100B, the largest distributed LLM pretraining run conducted over the open internet across globally distributed infrastructure. We spoke with Alan about his background, education, experiences, and perspectives on AI. Alan was a lead architect behind ResBM, our SOTA compression technique designed specifically for IOTA. He has pushed our work to the frontier of distributed AI development, helping us achieve feats that were only imaginable several years ago.

so you can either get exposure to SN9 now or after they've completed a permissionless 100B param run to convergence on heterogenous, interuptable, consumer-grade hardware. choose wisely.
Orion-100B is the first step in a larger programme, which we call Project Orion. Having shown viability in the present case, in the coming months we intend to progressively relax the current restrictions to demonstrate the efficacy of IOTA as a more generalised, decentralised system. That subsequent work will deliver further proof points as we progress step by step through the following:

Just orchestrated a 128 node permissionless decentralized training run, in 5 minutes, for 5 TAO, via @IOTA_SN9 They can do this up to 100B param models. Unbelievable. iota.macrocosmos.ai/dashboar…

The beauty of decentralized technologies is that they beget each other, a protocol of decentralized compute is only relevant when there is a protocol for decentralized training.
Targon 直接现场发布 Targon Tower 简单来说就是setup好的高性能显卡,nb的地方是平时不用的时候可以一键接入 Targon 产生被动收入。要不是实在太贵,我都有点心动了🥲

Extremely excited to announce that I’ve joined @UnsupervisedCap to invest alongside @Old_Samster and @bloomberg_seth in what I believe is the most meaningful movement in decentralized technology. In hindsight, becoming a believer was inevitable. At the heart of the Bittensor thesis is the idea that crypto is, and has always been, a highly optimized global coordination engine. That idea is what originally drew me into the crypto industry, and the one that has kept me here for the past five years. Bitcoin proved the idea works for running cryptographic algorithms. Bittensor extends it to any objective with a reliable reward function. My long term conviction is that Bittensor will coordinate intelligence on an unimaginable scale, fueling a virtuous cycle that pulls immense amounts of capital and talent into our industry while erasing years of reputational damage done by opportunistic actors who were never aligned with the foundational ideology crypto was built on. After that who knows - but you gotta start somewhere. If you want to chat about anything and everything Bittensor, my DMs are open.

There are some accounts on this app you should never fade
on iota (sn 9): iota = core infrastructure for the future of distributed ai training. you don't get to train a competitive decentralized model over the open internet if you cannot orchestrate compute across the world in the cheapest way and with the highest MFU performance. that’s the thesis they’ve already shown early signs that they’re able to train at the lowest cost/FLOP ever in both centralized and decentralized setting. I operate under Bayesian principles, so I’ve been buying more iota as the results they’ve demonstrated increase the probability that the thesis plays out for context, iota’s 100B model is trained using single A100s at a cost of $1.4 per hour/participant using spot instances. The previous large decentralized training run (sn 3) was a 70B model and used 8xB200 at $50 per hour the market is currently pricing iota at $45M next 12 months adjusted valuation

Targon is shipping custom clusters to solve the network's supply constraints while capturing extra margin on the solution. Furthermore, to secure H100s at scale in this environment, you gotta know a guy. Seems pretty likely that Targon knows a guy.

it all comes down to incentive structures
We have found crypto to be incredibly effective at incentivizing quantity AND quality with the right incentive design. For example in only 2 weeks running our nanobody design competition we saw: • Binding confidence: up ~3x from first to last submission • Structural fit: uncertainty at the interface dropped by nearly half • Hydrogen bonds: grow steadily across all designs. x.com/metanova_labs/status/2… As well as in our chemical search algorithm competition, where a miner introduced an optimization strategy never applied to drug discovery before (not just quality but novelty). This strategy has continued to be improved across challenges and consistently outperforms a published benchmark across different targets. x.com/metanova_labs/status/2… You can see our progress live on our dashboard: metanova-labs.ai/dashboard

"Lock yourself in a room doin' five beats a day for three summers."
Today, we are launching the first stage of Project Orion. Our early pre-training run of Orion-100B achieves upward of 65% of data-center training efficiency on hardware costing a fraction of the price. Orion-100B is the first proof point for a simple idea: that underutilized compute around the world can be turned into frontier training capacity. We believe that this work presents, for the first time, an economically compelling case for training large models using distributed approaches.

agent subnets are trajectory factories
Jun 1
We’re excited to announce the next stage of our subnet: an automated post-training pipeline that will enable us to build the best product for AI shopping. It’s only been 50 days, but we’re now getting 20k high-quality trajectories per day that are rich training signals for online shopping tasks. Using the trajectories we have thus far, we saw an 18% → 42% climb on Qwen3-4B base using our post-training pipeline.

what if... @IOTA_SN9
The prime driver of cost in pre training is MFU, or simply put ‘how often are the GPUs actually being used during training’. What if interruptible, distributed paradigms could achieve MFUs comparable or better than centralised? What if…

When you see a dev casually training a 176b model using a frontier decentralized training technique he's about to release, you probably don't want to fade him
Just for fun I kicked off a run of a 176b parameter model on ~140 steps to prove feasibility - 4 separate nodes across the internet using the "Parallax" method, works like a charm. Still need a more concrete plan on dataset curation, phases, context elongation, etc. etc. before a full run is ready of this scale, but at least we know 176b should be no problem at all.

“We must build forms of cooperation that respect the various levels of the global community” yeah he’s TAO pilled
Replying to @Pontifex
When it comes to decisions regarding economic flows and digital platforms, as well as the governance of data and algorithms, we cannot allow a handful of actors to dictate these processes on their own. Instead, we must build forms of cooperation that respect the various levels of the global community and make them jointly responsible for the common good.
