Returning to Sydney today - on Adelaide: withdrawing from festival role as interlocutor.
AWW and Louse Adler created a place where debate flourished - with respectful conversation including on our most difficult subjects - that should be defended in our cultural life.
It has been an honour to serve as Australia’s Ambassador to the United States over the last three years. I thank the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister for their kind remarks today.
I also thank the Trustees of Asia Society for offering me the position of global President & CEO, as well as President of the Asia Society Policy Institute and Chair of the Center for China Analysis. I will be remaining in America working between New York and Washington on the future of US-China relations, which I have always believed to be the core question for the future stability of our region and the world. As a ‘think and do’ tank, Asia Society’s formidable Center for China Analysis will be an important platform to that end.

No retirement from the Senate will be felt more deeply than @SenatorDodson’s.
His leadership has taught grace, humility, wisdom and courage.
I will miss his counsel, his resolve, his humour.
But I look forward to many more years of friendship.
Today’s figures show inflation moderated to 4.9% in the 12 months to Oct, down from 5.6% in Sept. Still higher than we’d like, and monthly numbers are volatile, but a substantial moderation and much lower than the 6.1% we inherited. #auspol#ausecon
#BruceLehrmann A gentleman would have taken a highly drunk young colleague safely straight home. Her honesty, but also her underlying tone of apology for her inebriation, echo modern women’s lot. His action on not seeing her safely home directly is disgraceful. #HugForBrittany

A very sad day for investors.
Charlie Munger was one of a kind - whip-smart, acerbic, a born teacher.
He has immeasurably improved the investing canon - and much besides.

Baseline view: conflict confined to Israel-Gaza. But risk scenario: Iran unleashes Hezbollah to prevent Israel from destroying Hamas. Then Israel/US attack Iran that is also going nuclear. Then China blockades Taiwan as US bogged down in 2 wars: Russia-Ukraine, MidEast. Then WW3?
Great article from @p_hannam on the need for Australia to adapt & reduce #risk in the face of worsening extreme #weather as a key lever to moderate rising #insurance premiums. This means focusing on stronger homes in the right location.
