Dear President Trump, Thomas Sowell is an American treasure. Please consider honoring him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I can’t think of a greater representative of American values.

One thing I am learning deeply in my walk with God this year is this: as a child of God, you must become addicted to prayer. Not casual… not occasional… not when it is convenient. Addicted. There is a realm where prayer is no longer a struggle, it becomes your natural response. A place where you don’t need motivation, reminders, or external pressure to pray—you just find yourself drawn to it. Just like a man who is addicted to something cannot go without it, your spirit begins to crave communion with God. You pray when you are happy. You pray when you are tired. You pray when things are working. You pray when nothing is working. Prayer becomes your lifestyle, not your last option. Many of us are still in the stage where we need something to push us to pray—problems, fear, needs, or emergencies. But there is a higher dimension where prayer is no longer need-based, it is love-driven. You don’t come to God just because you want something, you come because you cannot do without Him. This is where God wants us to be. A place where your spirit wakes you up before your alarm just to pray. A place where silence becomes uncomfortable because you miss His voice. A place where prayer is not a burden, but a delight. You must train yourself until prayer becomes your default setting. It will not happen in one day. You will have days where you feel weak, distracted, or dry. But stay consistent. Push yourself. Discipline your flesh. Build the altar daily. There is a transformation that happens when you refuse to give up. Because the truth is, the strength of your life is hidden in your prayer life. If you are weak in prayer, you will be weak in life. If you are strong in prayer, you will stand strong in every season. This year, make a decision: “I will not wait to feel like praying. I will become a man/woman of prayer.” Pray until it becomes your identity. Pray until it becomes your hunger. Pray until it becomes your addiction.

Beautifully articulated
I advocate for things I passionately believe in. I always have. And there is nothing I believe in more deeply than the power of Scripture. Not as a theological position I argue (although I do) but as something I have lived. I open this book every day. It grounds me, corrects me, comforts me, and connects me to God in a way that nothing else ever has in my life. When things are good or bad or when I’m anxious (happens a lot). But especially when I don’t understand the world. That is not an argument. That is my experience. One that I value more than any other. Church is irreplaceable and it is community, tradition, and accountability, and shared worship, and joy. I am not saying that liturgy is empty or that sacrament is meaningless or that centuries of theological tradition have nothing to teach us. Of course they do. I am not saying they are not informative, important or influential. Of course they are. I am not judging how anyone chooses to practice their faith. How you worship is between you and God and that is the most important relationship we have. You chose how to honor it. But I will never say something I don’t believe. I believe Scripture is the ultimate authority. Not the Church. Not the tradition. Not the council or the bishop or the theologian, or the pastor no matter how brilliant or how sincere. God. His word. That is the final authority. It is my conscience and my understanding of what is good, beautiful and true. I’m not smarter than the Church, I’m not better than anyone. I’m not more spiritual than anyone. I’m not trying to be. My faith is for no one but myself. But my belief in sola scriptura is not about me at all. It’s obedience to my Lord and Savior. Everything and everyone can be corrupted. But He is not corruptible. His word does not shift. It just stands and tells the truth. About Him, about me, about the gap between us, and about the grace that bridges it. God is the ultimate authority. His word governs. And I will spend my life defending that because I believe it with my heart. Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. - Romans 10:17 Every time Scripture is spoken, faith becomes possible in the person who hears it. You come to Christ through the Word. And even if I lead one person to Christ that’s enough.

"It's not the police who need to be retrained, it's the public. We have grown into a mouthy, mobile phone wielding, vulgar, uncivil society with no personal responsibility and the attitude of 'it's the other person's fault, you owe me'. A society where children grow up with no boundaries or knowledge or concern for civil society and personal responsibility. When an officer says "Put your hands up," then put your hands up! Don't reach for something in your pocket, your lap, your seat. There's plenty of reason for a police officer to feel threatened, there have been multiple assaults and ambushes on police officers lately. Comply with requests from the officer, have your day in court. Don't mouth off, or fight, or refuse to comply... that escalates the situation. Police officers are our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters. They're black, white, brown, all colors, all ethnicities, all faiths, male and female, they are us. They see the worst side of humanity... the raped children, the bloody mangled bodies of traffic victims, the bruised and battered victims of domestic violence, homicide victims, body parts... day after day. They work holidays while we have festive meals with our families. They miss school events with their kids, birthdays, anniversaries, all those special occasions that we take for granted. They work in all types of weather, under dangerous conditions, for relatively low pay. They have extensive training, but they are human. When there are numerous attacks on them, they become hyper vigilant for a reason, they have become targets. When a police officer encounters any person... any person, whether at a traffic stop, a street confrontation, an arrest, whatever... that situation has the potential to become life threatening. You, Mr & Mrs/Miss Civilian, also have the responsibility of keeping the situation from getting out of control. Many law enforcement officers are Veterans. They've been in service to this nation most of their lives, whether on the battlefield or protecting us here at home. They are the only thing that stands between us and anarchy in the streets. If you want to protect your child, teach them respect." ~ Sheriff David Clarke
