"Symmetry is what this kind of mapping aims for: not mapping in a way such that the map is symmetrical to the world, but in a way that the map is symmetrical to what humans know about the world." #gischat #eochat #AugmentedReality #geodata worldbuilder.substack.com/p/…

Problem with these kinds of maps is they are simply a proxy for population/population density

Also fun fact: Ulysses S. Grant was gifted a stallion by Sultan Abdul Hamid II of the Ottoman Empire, its name was Leopard

Cool fact: Horses aren't European Evolved in North America, crossed Bering straight, died out in north America. Domesticated around Kazakhstan or north Caucasus. Brought back to North America as many different breeds including Middle Eastern/North African influence.

I think this mostly is just fun with maps creating fantasy kingdoms But Cascadis would really not include anything east of the scablands and high desert in central Washington, no Idaho. It could be North American Chile!
Reports of secessionist movements within the United States and Canada are gaining traction in various regions, according to the New York Times. In particular, the newspaper highlights the initiative to create a state called “Cascadia,” which would unite the U.S. states of California, Oregon, and Washington, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia. The report also points to similar ideas emerging in Texas, California, New Mexico, and other states.

This is what makes it tough to make a startup, a small business, be a freelancer in the USA.
Health Insurance (self employed) is such a joke. We pay around $3500 a month for 4 people Son went to the ER after a bike crash, no major tests or scans, basic blood work and exam. There an hour. They billed $2800 ON TOP on a $500 co-pay and our insurance covered $568 It's so easy to see how medical bills bankrupt people. I am $9,000 OUT OF POCKET PLUS $3500 a month SO FAR in 2026 - maddening

I mapped all 16 World Cup 2026 Stadiums, to scale. A whole continent of football, shrunk to the same footprint, side by side.

In many places it is unbearable. The Dolomites, Firenze, etc have it no easier than Zermatt and Lauterbrunnen

This rings true. For fun I was able to make a simple blog page that I just login to with GitHub. Only I can modify and post because I am in the GitHub project. Same for dashboards. You can vibe code then and put behind a GitHub login. The real Sagas is just making auth for it

I have only vague memories of ever paying tolls in the US and it feels like most were either to cross a bridge or use an urban turnpike/fast lane, but default slower toll free option tends to almost always be there I am from western USA so tolls are pretty alien concept

NASA has selected the company Astrolab as one of the providers of a new crewed lunar rover for the Artemis campaign. The vehicle, called CLV-1, will rely on critical technologies developed by Venturi Space teams in Switzerland, Monaco and France.

Ode to Yosemite, v2 I fed Fable replies from the thread and let it cook > weather system: drifting clouds, rainstorms, snow that accumulates over time, fog that fades as the day passes > ravens soar El Capitan, mule deer graze the meadows > pulled OpenStreetMap data: 1,244 buildings real roads, traffic at the valley's actual 25mph speed limit > synthesized rain, birdsong and crickets sounds from scratch AND it created this video completely by itself!
Asked Fable to build a navigable version of Yosemite to scale > pulled satellite imagery real NASA elevation data > classified individual forest pixels and created ~266k procedural trees > custom water shaders for all 6 famous waterfalls accurate placement on cliff brinks > five times of day: dawn to night > tested itself: flew the camera around headlessly, screenshotted its own work, and fixed tree colors waterfall placement from what it saw > added snow etc. unprompted Pretty fucking impressive

A vision for EU highways that describes American highways
In der EU sollte meiner Meinung nach niemand Maut zahlen müssen. Jeder Autofahrer sollte einfach von Portugal nach Estland fahren können, ohne sich über irgendwelche Vignetten Gedanken machen zu müssen!
