📢 Today's the last day to weigh in on San Mateo County's draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). We need input from residents, businesses, and community organizations on how we can prepare for hazard events before they occur. What's missing from the plan? What would you add? What's the biggest hazard risk where you live? TELL US! Read the draft plan and submit feedback: bit.ly/4wY9lfD The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) is currently being updated in accordance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) 2022 policy revisions. It identifies our risks from wildfires, flooding, earthquakes, severe weather, other natural hazards, and outlines actions to reduce damage before disasters happen. It also keeps San Mateo County’s 20 cities, unincorporated communities, and special districts eligible for federal hazard mitigation funding. Read the draft plan and submit feedback: bit.ly/4wY9lfD

High-angle rescue training on a massive scale! 🧗‍♂️🌲 Firefighters from CAL FIRE, San Mateo County Fire, and Central County Fire teamed up at the iconic Doran Bridge in San Mateo County for intensive technical rope rescue training. Standing an impressive 270 feet above the canyon floor, the bridge provides the perfect high-stakes environment for mastering advanced life-saving skills. Firefighters dialed in critical techniques, including high-angle rappelling and complex victim pickoffs—where rescuers lower down to secure and transition a stranded patient onto their own rope system. Training side-by-side with our regional agency partners ensures seamless coordination when the call comes in. Great work by all the firefighters keeping their technical skills sharp and ready! @sanmateoco @centralcountyfd

How is it already June? Happy grilling season to all who celebrate! Remember: always clean the grill before and after each use, keep it outside away from your home, and always keep an eye on it while in use (yes, even during dance breaks). @NFPA's tips: nfpa.org/grilling #summer #firesafety

STAY OUT OF FIREFIGHTING AIRSPACE. Aerial firefighting is one of the most dangerous and time-sensitive operations. We must fly low, maneuver through rugged terrain, and make precise drops and communicate in real time to support firefighters on the ground. All of it STOPS the moment an unauthorized aircraft OR unauthorized drones enter the area because the risk to our crews’ lives is too great. When a drone or private aircraft is spotted near a wildfire, firefighting aircraft must be grounded until the airspace is confirmed clear. When our aircraft are grounded, the fire continues to move. In those lost minutes, the fire grows, threatens additional communities, and reduces our ability to support firefighters on the ground. If you fly, we can't. #IfYouFlyWeCant #AirOperations #Drones #CALFIRE #UAS
