With the baby loss certificates being back in the press, we thought it would be timely to share the journey of the certificates. So many people are interested in how long it took for us to bring them to pass and I’m constantly asked about the process and work that happened behind the scenes. Head to: sayinggoodbye.org/medical/ba… I think most of your questions will be answered here. @FloellaBenjamin @BBCBreakfast @ClarkCoates @collinge1717

We did it ❤️❤️❤️ Everyone in England can now apply for a baby loss certificate, whether the loss was yesterday or eighty years ago. Ten years ago, I had a dream that the parents of every baby that was lost in pregnancy would be able to be given an official government-issued certificate, so we launched a campaign. Mariposa International (Saying Goodbye) was a lone voice until Baroness Floella Benjamin pledged to support us in our endeavour. Roll forward a few years to March 2018 when The Secretary of State for Health asked me and Samantha Collinge to co-chair and author the government’s pregnancy loss review, which included looking at the feasibility of introducing the certificate. All of that work has resulted in this significant day. I know how much this means to so many people as your babies are finally being officially acknowledged. You can apply for a certificate here: gov.uk/request-baby-loss-cer…

Great to have started the ball rolling with you again Zoe to get the definition of Still-Birth reduced to 20wks which millions of women will benefit from. That’s what makes being in the @UKHouseofLords important to me @ClarkCoates ❤️
Today Baroness @FloellaBenjamin, Andy and I (on behalf of Mariposa International - @SayingGoodbyeUK) set about trying to make another historic change for those who have experienced a baby loss. The first reading of our Bill took place in The House of Lords to reduce the stillbirth definition from 24 to 20 weeks. This change would benefit up to 10,000 families a year. We have been campaigning for this for many years and today is a huge step in the right direction, Watch this space for more information and to follow our campaign.

I have to do a dedicated post to my dear friend and @SayingGoodbyeUK Ambassador @FloellaBenjamin Ten years ago, I had a dream that the parents of every baby that was lost in pregnancy would be able to be given an official government-issued certificate, so we launched a campaign. Mariposa International (Saying Goodbye) was a lone voice until Baroness Floella Benjamin saw me on @BBCBreakfast in 2017 and pledged to support us in our endeavour. We produced a bill that was introduced through The House of Lords and we became confident that this dream of certification would one day become a reality. Roll forward a year to March 2018 when The Secretary of State for Health (@Jeremy_Hunt ) asked me and Samantha Collinge (@collinge1717)to co-chair and author the government’s pregnancy loss review, which included looking at the feasibility of introducing the certificate. Sam and I spent nearly six years conducting an in depth review of the clinical care and support of people affected by baby loss. This resulted in 73 recommendations to overhaul and change the care which is offered. The review was accepted in its entirety and we are now working with @10DowningStreet @DHSCgovuk @NHSEngland and others to implement the recommendations. We are utterly thrilled that we were able to deliver the certification scheme through the work of our review as we know it will benefit millions of families. It’s been an utter privilege to lead the campaign for the certification and then have the opportunity to also deliver it through ‘The Pregnancy Loss Review’. I want to dedicate this work to the millions of heartbroken individuals who begged for their precious babies to be officially recognised and acknowledged by government, your voices and support has carried me and @SayingGoodbyeUK through.
