It was an absolute blast having our close collaborators from @CASUSscience today - a fruitful day with lab practicals & 6 microscopes built to be deployed to multiple sites for #UTI diagnosis in the near future. Exciting times! Looking forward to another stimulating day tomorrow!
#Xmas festive #OpenFlexure scopes assembly between #MLID and @BIIG_UCL at @ucl #YakimovichGroup is having a lot of fun!

Prof. Eleanor Stride has put together a short #teacher resource video explaining how microbubbles encapsulating drugs work. An easy to understand example of drug delivery challenges for cancer therapies. The same microbubbles are studied to adress AMR. bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-…

Elephant in the room that needs addressing: Inadequate treatment of Index UTI, shorter courses (no evidence for less is more!), cycling, LD prophylaxis, no follow up appt to pick up recurrences (up to 30%), reliance on outdated testing and dismissal of symptoms with terminology!

Peter of #BIIG won the Best Abstract in Basic Science at #IUGA2024! 👏👏👏 His presentation on a host immune-centred approach to uncovering causative pathogens in #ChronicUTI inspired a flurry of discussion surrounding the disease pathogenesis and treatment. Well done, Peter!!

Overall, I’m really impressed with this work but look forward to real-world data - and parallel advances in more sensitive ID strategies whether based on host or microbe

...it's great to see UTI a focus, given its huge prevalence (~400 mil/year) and AMR burden (~260K deaths/yr). It gives ID (5 top pathogens only) for 10^4 cfu/ml which is less sensitive than the (already not hugely sensitive) MSU, but antimicrobial profile in 45 min.
