A Bittensor Subnet Guide for Newbs 🔥 ———————————————— NFA! 😁 Hi I’m quas. DTAO is a scary place which can be difficult to navigate. It’s easy to make Tao but it’s just as easy to lose it. Here are some of my sub investing tips to take full advantage of this new market… 1. ALWAYS CHECK CIRCULATING SUPPLY. You must always be aware of alpha supply in dTAO. There is massive variation here and is the biggest reason newcomers lose. A mature subnet may have 4 million alpha circulating, while a new sub only has 400k circulating. All dTAO prices are relative to Tao, so it’s not always obvious which subs are new and old. This is even more important with de registrations now. When a slot number is dereg, it comes back starting from scratch. These new subnets have extremely low liquidity and should be avoided at all costs unless you are 100% sure that the project is undervalued and you have done extensive research on the team. The rate of inflation for new subs is also extremely high, 1-3% per day sometimes. This mimics constant sell pressure. 2. CHECK TOP HOLDERS If I am interested in a sub, I am going to check every wallet in the top 10 at least. Are the top guys diamond hands or traders? Some top wallets rarely sell. Invest in teams with transparent owner wallets that never sell. If the top holders of a subnet are whales who actively trade who just bought 1000T a day ago, you are probably going to get dumped on hard. This is a big reason why I love sn63. Mature supply (OG subnet, low rate of inflation). Team owns wallets worth 25% of the supply that never sell. No one trades it. I know the top holders and they have extreme conviction. I’m also not selling. Const holds a bunch. This is how you take advantage of 50% APY with very limited downside and unlimited upside. 3. SLIPPAGE AND MEV BOTS Common in most crypto, these small losses will slowly eat away at you, try your best to avoid them. Use taostats MEV shield at all times, it works. Only make trades when absolutely necessary. Especially with low liq cheaper subs, moving back and forth will probably hurt you over time. 4. KEEP UP WITH THE NEWS Since dTAO is only about 2000 active people, prices react instantly to news. SN6 for example. Const mentioned them on X, the chats were buzzing with excitement. SN6 basically did a 50% gain from this action. You could have increased your Tao by 50% if you bought this hype. These opportunities happen nearly every week here. 5. DONT BE AFRAID TO SELL GAINS Easy come easy go. If your sub is up 30% on the day, be aware that there are traders watching the chart waiting to dump on you. Don’t let them. Many pumps are NOT sustained in dTAO, competition is fierce. 6. LIQUIDITY POOLS DTAO emissions give freshly minted TAO that can’t really be sold to liquidity pools of the successful subs that people are buying. The more “network Tao” in a subnets liquidity pool, the more stable the price. Network Tao is much better to have in a pool than “traders’ tao”.
