I no longer post here, I only post on Blue Sky. This is because this site is used to amplify hate-speech and far-right messages and abuse, and I am not happy to support that. Many/most/all energy and climate people now only post on Blue Sky.

.@BBCr4today we *do not* have the most expensive electricity in Europe, it's actually about average #r4today. Left is DESNZ, right is eurostat. PLEASE start speaking truth to power and challenge any guest who says this! @bbcnickrobinson @amolrajan @BBCSimonJack @DharshiniDavid

For @JustinOnWeb (and the whole @BBCr4today team); Britain does NOT have expensive energy compared to Europe. The UK is about average. Data for manufacturers from DESNZ and eurostat. #r4today

Same applies to domestic customers. GB domestic electricity was 26p/unit in first half of 2024 (average of Ofgem price caps of 28p then 24p); EU average was 24p/unit

This is deeply disappointing, as it's a) totally unnecessary bureaucracy, all heat pumps are near silent; b) unfair and discriminatory, as gas boilers are far noiser but aren't subject to noise assessment; c) undermines any benefit from removing the 1 m rule.
Replying to @MingleDandy @Miatsf
Maximum permissible noise limits will remain and all heat pumps will still need to comply with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme Noise Planning Standard MCS 020 to be eligible for installation under permitted development.

Not even making this up, it’s quieter than the boiler flume was

Just to expand a bit, if a heat pump is noisy, there's something wrong with it or it hasn't been installed properly. The mandatory MCS 020 noise assessment doesn't prevent that.

I do not miss the days of dumb Tory ministers talking nonsense in interviews. Shapps lost his seat in the general election.

Grant Shapps giving an extraordinary interview on #R4Today. He's so far out of his depth he's walking on the seabed.

I hear this time and again – police just don't pursue investigations they judge "minor", such as abusing women, even when handed all the evidence on the plate. Victims have to act as case managers chasing, chasing, every step of the way. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgw…

Conrad Energy, who I believe are the biggest owner/operator of reciprocating gas engine peaker plant in the UK, generated 1 TWh from its assets last year. For context, total generation was about 300 TWh. rolls-royce.com/media/our-st…

Recip gas engines are very inefficient – only about 25%, combined to 50-60% for a good combined-cycle gas turbine. Hopefully grid batteries will soon displace them, and to be fair to Conrad, they're now a big developer of grid batteries.

These are the funds that people have been campaigning for years to get out of the oil & gas and armaments industries, with varying degree of success. Taken out the control of local government, will we see the new funds straight back to investing dirty? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gv…

Yesterday @exeterlabour refused to extend the hours of a bus lane on a major thoroughfare to include when children come home from school. Today @UniofExeter points out that leadership is needed to overcome systemic barriers preventing tackling climate change. Listen up Labour!

In fact during the meeting the leader of Labour in Exeter, @philbialyk, unilaterally decided to reduce the operating hours even further than was being proposed with no explanation. God help us all

China and US are the largest existing markets, and sales in both are up. Sales in the UK are up. In the EU EV sales are up in 19 markets, including the entire top ten for car sales! Eight European countries now have EV sales above 30% as a proportion of car sales.

So no @BBCJoao @BBCNews EV sales are most certainly not slowing. They are in fact growing. Perhaps you could correct your article please, and not make same mistake again?
