I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is a great column on bail and the remand prison population by Richard Prebble. nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/r…

ACT is now making excuses for racist violence against immigrants. Saying the violence is unacceptable rings hollow if you immediately go on to blame immigration for it.

Hands up if you're old enough to remember when ACT was a pro-immigration party that believed in the rule of law

I don't even know where to start with the idea that Marxists had a neutral stance on policing until 2019.
The merits of defund/abolish aside, I simply reject the premise that opposing cops and prisons is this intractable part of socialism that we should or should not compromise on. All the way up until like 2019 the dominant Marxist stance on policing was one of relative neutrality.

If you don't like New Zealand First under Winston Peters just wait until you see New Zealand First after Winston Peters. It's really starting to solidify now into the one standard unified alt-right/cooker/soft-fash/international-nationalism party seemingly every country now has.

Considering that Vermont is probably the most Democratic state at presidential level now, it's incredible that it never voted for a Democrat for president until LBJ in 1964 and then didn't vote for one again until Bill Clinton in 1992. Since then it hasn't voted for a Republican.

YIMBY king Mamdani mentions New Zealand!
Zohran just cited Minneapolis, Austin, and Auckland as cities that lowered housing costs via upzoning certified ball knowledge, Auckland is a deep YIMBY cut

The British Labour Party is giving us a gripping drama. Multiple paths it could go down, lots of suspense, and a compelling array of characters. Somebody should get HBO onto it.

Have the Free Speech Union considered running a tour about, you know, free speach, featuring someone with expertise regarding free speech? Or does running a media-bashing tour generate more donations and clicks?

Ah yes a brilliant idea for an unpopular Prime Minister dealing with a war in the Middle East - appoint as your Foreign Secretary an unpopular former Prime Minister best known for leading the UK into a disastrous war in the Middle East.

@BarughTyrone may be set to get a victory after a long campaign - the Parliamentary Counsel Office is consulting on a proposal to repeal a bunch of old Local Acts of Parliament, including the Wellington City Milk-supply Act 1919!

This headline has made many people believe the application to discriminate was granted, that's not the case, the court just said it needs to go back to Tribunal for reconsideration.
