Why I'm keen on @earth2io more than any other #metaverse or #web3 project. A thread🧵. 1: Familiarity. Earth 2 is a digital clone of Earth, but with all the buildings and tech removed. A blank canvas for players to create what they want in locations they know.

earth2.io is not just a virtual map designed by someone. It is an open world aiming to recreate the entire Earth we live on at a 1:1 scale. Total surface area: 510,072,000 km². This scene is from Earth2 in-game footage, based on the actual terrain of Hallasan’s summit. I put together a video featuring the sunset over Hallasan and gameplay with characters wearing various skins. The important point is that this is not a cinematic, it is all real-time in-game footage. It is still a work in progress, but I think there is real potential in the idea that real-world locations can become spaces where we can walk, explore, customize, and play. I want to feel #Earth2 no matter where I am. Following magical words from @theshaneisaac were the reason why I started with Earth2 5 years ago The mobile app promise “feel #earth2 around you” and the inception video that sparked the hype back then could finally come true. The long-awaited app has finally been announced for Q1/2026. In the video summary, you can see how E2 and the mobile App was originally announced five years ago as “a place that is accessible for free by everyone, a place for creativity, education, commerce, experiences, interaction, and trade.” Other open-world games may have huge development teams and budgets, but for me, the real success factor of Earth2 will be a mobile app that makes you feel Earth2 is all around you and enables 1:1 geolocation, which was promised back then and has always set Earth2 apart from all the thousands of other open-world games.

It will be 2026. We already have all of the buildings you've seen in showcase videos in the past. It just makes no sense releasing them until there are the relevant systems in place to build them via the EcoSim & aligned with the overall vision of Earth 2. We could dump a city inside E2V1 tomorrow, but that would take so much satisfaction, and value, away from Players actually building their own cities via the EcoSim.

The first animals will likely be introduced via the gardening system. So after the gardening system comes online, a subsequent future update will introduce animals. At least that is my current plan.
