Of all the things I'm doing today, wondering what my old friend Harlan Ellison would have thought about this Obsession brouhaha is not one of them. You stand with labor, or you don't.

Yes, because he doesn’t currently get unchallenged airtime nearly everywhere
It’s time we scrapped the BBC licence fee. If it wants to be this biased it can raise its own income, not rely on a regressive tax. Like other left-wing British institutions, it’s time for change.

The 22-minute monologue that begins this show offers clear, compelling proof that Israel committed genocide in Gaza. It's then followed by a harrowing interview with Dr. Maynard and the atrocities he saw in Gaza. Anyone denying the value of this is either a fraud who doesn't believe what they say about the Israeli/US genocide, or is very dumb, or both.
At some point every Holocaust museum will be forced to include an exhibit on what’s happening in Gaza right now. It’s only a matter of time. Dr. Nick Maynard of Oxford University medical school has been a witness to the genocide.

The biggest issue with Star Wars fans is they want to treat it like it’s deadly serious, rather than as a franchise for kids and grown up kids. It can deal with heavier stuff, like most of the great young adult fiction does, but it is abysmal at being dark, edgy or adult.
Star Wars is modern mythology for American culture. . . Relegating Star Wars to a simple adventure with "cool creatures and lasers" is why fans get annoyed/upset. Disney/Lucasfilm apologists are declaring that American culture is childish, throwaway product. There's nothing wrong with turning your brain off, but if you disrespect the culture, expect the backlash.

Yeah, I guess when it’s people dying in another country, it’s not a real issue.
American voters have moved on from Gaza. They want relief at the gas pump and the grocery store. We're not doing this for another election.

It looks gorgeous, but is pretty dull and silly, with only Rigg to keep it afloat. Even George looks bored by halfway through. It wasn't until Casino Royale we got some genuinely stylish visuals again. Everything between was workmanlike
why did they randomly decide to make a bond film that looks like this only to never make another one like it again?

It’s easy to claim some sort of largesse when the final profit is so big, but it is constant efficiency that generates that number, not price gouging.
Such a scam that right wingers have suddenly switched to 'profit margins' when discussing supermarkets, because its far easier to say 'oh poor Tesco is scraping by on a 2% profit margin' rather than consider whether Tesco making £3bn a year while people starve is good

If there were a clip to highlight the disfunctionality of parliament it’s a working class woman proposing MPs shouldn’t be allowed to drink subsidised booze on the job followed by said MPs jeering her and the PM completely avoiding the question. Clear the lot out.
🚨 WATCH: Green MP Hannah Spencer asks Keir Starmer if he agrees that MPs "shouldn't be drinking on the job" Starmer: "The Greens think their leader walks on water. It turns out that he just lives on water and doesn't pay his council tax" #PMQs

Memento is a classic, Insomnia is decent, The Prestige and Inception are good. The rest are average to bad.
I hate every time there is a Nolan controversy because how are you forgetting that this dude has the following filmography

Imagine thinking calling out getting drunk on public subsidy is wasting their first ever PMQs.
Imagine wasting your first ever PMQ like this.

TDK is a clear case of people getting excited about the idea of the movie, rather than the actual movie, which is a Nolan trend. It's got some brilliant moments, but it's a mess
Rewatched Dark Knight for the first time in probably a decade because my kid wanted to watch it and man it fuckin blows

Ah, ageism. Classic.
I've been putting off watching McCartney on SNL because everyone's been so mean about his voice. I just watched it and it's even worse than I thought. wtf even is this

That Ninja-Frank twist with Maria is one of the most excruciating, on-the-nose moments. It’s meant to feel bold and challenging and instead it’s pandering. It says nothing about the character at all.
Divorcegate is the worst thing to get happen to Punisher. It was the worst when Aaron wrote it in 2009 and it was worse when he rehashed the same concept in 2022. It's complete character assassination for both Maria and Frank Castle.

Unpopular take: Jon basically plays Castle as Wolverine. It’s a bad performance and the show is generic good guy with a gun fodder.
Still my favorite Punisher line since he came back, he was so real

The Punisher is interesting because he really doesn't divide on political lines cleanly. Much of his behaviour contradicts traditional Conservative dogma around war, while some of his beliefs are based on letting people live how they want
Replying to @WearingGoldluck
The Punisher himself should always be a far right conservative. It's just that he shouldn't be written by one

Film debate is cyclical and changed by online discourse/availability. If Requiem pops up on an influencer’s most harrowing movies, it’ll get discussion.
I wonder which currently canonized letterboxd/film twitter touchstones will be unfashionable to future generations, like how cinephiles twenty years ago treated Requiem for a Dream and City of God as de rigueur and now nobody talks about them.

This is one of my many issues with Netflix/Jon-era Punisher. Castle wouldn’t engage in open fire in a public space like this. That’s not his MO, because it would lead to civilians getting hurt. And Frank just isn’t that guy.
La primer aparición de The Punisher en Daredevil vive siempre en mi mente. Icónico.

I remember S1, where he gouges a dudes eyes out like he’s Wolverine and Jon is spitting and slobbering… I was laughing so hard, while being disappointed that they made such a mess of the character again.
Replying to @NEEMOAHTOAD
Exactly what I’ve been saying. Bernthal does not understand the character. This whole time since his first appearance there’s been not character development and I was excited for the special to change that
