Just took delivery of these beauties by @MichelleRWarren and @BridgetWhearty and I’m so excited to read both of them I think I might have to alternate pages.

Next-level trompe l'oeil book of hours right here. Flowers "pinned" to the page with matching parts on recto and verso... cyfrowe.mnk.pl/dlibra/public…
feeling a deep sense of kinship with the 15th century flemish illustrator who drew this adorable tiny dog crawling through the page of a manuscript 🄹

Plus some of the flowers are actually jewels (this part is a bit spooky, possibly AI-generated)

My gut is telling me the page-jumper/fly-napper isn't a dog, but the one on the right on the other hand...the spiked collar is writing checks that good boy can't cash

Summer heat is here. Farm workers & other outdoor workers desperately need federal heat standards to save lives. With the government's shift to the right, the need has grown. Sign our petition telling @OSHA_DOL to implement emergency heat rules NOW! ufw.org/oshaemergencyheat #Calor

Do you have a stupid little girlfriend? Are her fitness goals silly and bad? Good news, GZCLP is a data-driven strength-training program that’s just condescending enough to make her realize she doesn’t belong in that part of the gym saynotobroscience.com/gzclp-…

It's been a year since I asked this question! We settled on Google Drive, since Stanford (for now at least) has unlimited Drive access. Connection interruptions are handled well and we haven't had any issues with incomplete downloads since we started using the Drive desktop app.

What's everyone's favorite way to transfer data (for example, transferring 50-100 GB to or from a digitization vendor)? Our current methods are sFTP or physically mailing a hard drive and both make me want to quit my job

Go find the video of last night's "Would've, Could've, Should've" on YouTube and listen to the sound of tens of thousands of young women screaming "Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts / Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first"

TIL I learned that you shouldn't put receipts in the recycling! I also learned that my local waste company has a cool little tool telling you what to do with your trash recology.com/recology-san-ma…
It’s a great question! We want to place all receipts (and cash register tape) in the trash and never recycle them because that kind of ā€œthermal paperā€ uses BPS/BPA coatings and we don’t want to introduce that into the recycled paper supply!

Thanks for the shoutout, @hchesner--and the flashback to when @timdungate and I spent two weeks telling the internet how bad we were at our jobs šŸ’›
"Digitization tends to squash things. It quite literally turns three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional ones. It’s not as bad as it used to be — just one look at a bitonal microfilm scan will show you how far we’ve come — but it’s still easy to forget..."

The D&D movie end credits are beautiful and say a lot about what we think medieval manuscripts/generic old books look like and this thread is great and this particular detail is fascinating (my main observation when watching was "That doesn't look like gold leaf")
Replying to @book_historia
And something I don’t think I’ve ever seen executed in so much detail is the incorporation of Islamic manuscript aesthetics into Western high medieval aesthetics

I feel like there's also probably a lot to be said about how the CGI manuscripts mimic and deviate from actual digitized manuscripts...look at all those shadows for one thing.

No one: I'd like a complete overview of the copyright status, according to the providing museum, of every digitised Vermeer painting featured in the Rijksmuseum's blockbuster show. Me: āœ‹ douglasmccarthy.com/2023/03/… #OpenGLAM #Copyright #Museums #OpenAccess

Maybe I've been radicalized by @MaintenancePod but I would humbly submit that if a bad thing happens to a fat person it's still bad
For people who are dealing with obesity and diabetes, Ozempic appears to create a path toward a healthy relationship to food. For those who aren’t, ā€œit might function more like an injectable eating disorder,ā€ @jiatolentino writes. nyer.cm/rKPpDHM

If #IIIF hadn't already been invented, this tweet would have given me a great idea for a set of content delivery standards
Catherine of Aragon & Anne Boleyn both owned a copy of the ✨same✨ printed Book of Hours. Don't forget, you only have until 4 June to see these books on display together. After then Catherine's book will be travelling back home to the @MorganLibrary. #WorldBookDay #HeverCastle
