World Cup tourists fall in love with middle America — raving about Waffle House at 1 a.m., Buc-ee's gas stations, and strangers driving them to stadiums in the rain. Oxford Economics expects 1.24 million international visitors for the tournament, and their viral posts are showcasing a side of the country most foreign media never covers.

This is a good policy.
We're making Victoria the fairest place to be a renter.

It seems like the only way to become a "trillionaire" is public procurement. Interesting times!

There's a difference between good food in the US and good food elsewhere. In the US, you need to know the place. If you want, say, tacos or a quesadilla, you need to do your research, find a decent spot with good reviews, and, if you're lucky and live in a big city, you'll find one. In Mexico City, by contrast, you can walk into a random place and the food will be amazing.
Replying to @BillyJardine7
Oh come on the food in the US is RIDICULOUS. You can’t have this much ingenuity and this much international cross breeding in a country of nearly 400 million and NOT have amazing food.

I just love it. Remember the Russian meme "АМЕРИКАНЕЦ ПРИЕХАЛ," where any praise from an American about life in Russia is treated as gospel? Well, apparently Americans have the same phenomenon, except the reference group is Europeans (Germans and Swedes in this case). One German posted something positive about a gas station in the US, and now they're writing news stories about it. This conservative public intellectuals is ecstatic, using it as proof of how "prosperous" the Yanks are. "EUROPEANS COMING TO AMERICA ARE SHOCKED"
Europeans coming to America for the World Cup are shocked by our prosperity. A German guy has his mind blown by Buc-ee’s. A Swedish woman is amazed by ranch dressing, says it's "like crack." She claims that the internet on a plane flying over the Rockies is faster than what she has at home. She declares “The U.S.A. has completely radicalized me within 48 hours.” Americans can romanticize Europe all they want. But it's good to have a higher standard of living. And we do, thanks to freer markets and mass migration. 🇺🇸

Unexpectedly, it seems like many in the EU are dissatisfied with how Putin's tear gas princess handles the job.
FT Exclusive: France, Germany and other European nations are discussing proposals for a radical overhaul of the EU’s 15-year-old diplomatic service, including stripping powers from the bloc’s chief diplomat. ft.trib.al/Hskd8cT

This is funny. I find it completely plausible that One Nation raised nearly $2 million in 24 hours. They probably have 30k supporters willing to send 60 bucks at least once. But Pauline's defensiveness, and this supposedly "independent" audit, anonymous and unsigned, actually makes me doubt the story more, not less.
Albo claims the last 24hrs worth of donations are fake. He's lying again. Here's the independent audit that's just been completed that proves the site and money is ridgy didge. Now, will the PM reveal how much his campaign has raised? Help us FIRE THE LIAR ! donate.onenation.org.au/fire… #RidgyDidge #Audit #OneNation #Donations #PaulineHanson

This is kinda moot. If there's a preference deal, then the non-compete wouldn't matter. But a world in which they can't agree on a preference deal is also the world in which they can't agree on seat division, which is a far more contentious topic. Abbott and Angus are right politically: the best LNP play is the preference deal with PHON. Whether they have enough leverage at this point is a different question.
Angus Taylor’s close confidant and numbers man, Tony Pasin, has urged the Liberals to divide seats with One Nation. Read more: bit.ly/4ehlm7l

Russians. What's "ПРЛьная башка"?

It looks some Aussie voters have not seen the ballot. I wonder how many fines they've accumulated.
Very surprised the idiots here don’t know how voting works

It seems like a lot of people on this platform are not gettimg the promise of genre TV. People tune in for dopamine kicks and recognition of familiar patterns. They delight when House (Hugh Laurie) gets things right. But it only works if getting things right is hard. In all episodic mystery shows, the detectives follow red herrings, arrest the wrong guy, etc. The structural equivalent of that in a medical drama like House M.D. is misdiagnosing and prescribing the wrong treatments. If you want non-formulaic prestige TV that blows your mind with originality and unexpected genre pivots, go watch Desperate Housewives.
I mean, you’d have thought for a million bucks an episode he might have been able to suck a bit of fair (if rather obvious) criticism from a civilian.

Recently had a drink with a bunch of Russian jews in Victoria. Everyone is voting One Nation. A curious mix of economic and racial grievances.
Many naturalised citizens genuinely love Australia & see citizenship as more than a bundle of legal privileges. I would hope such people are among the most aggrieved about how easy it is to get citizenship. Anything given away easily is generally of low value. Make it count.

This is why so many people Australia for New Zealand - for their higher standards of living and economic dynamism! Oh wait...
NZ Prime Minister Standing right next to Albo, says CGT would be a wrecking ball to The NZ economy. Sooo good! 😂

Been arguing this similar line for months. Why should a nurse earning $100k get taxed at 28% but an investor earning the same income from capital gains pay a tax rate of 7%. Same income $20k less in tax for the investor with >$500k in investments. Tell me why it is fair.
The government is tying itself in knots trying to explain the CGT changes. But @spenderallegra did it for them *months* ago. This is the line they should be using:

Future generations of Russians will look at statues of Navalny, walk through squares and streets named after him, and curse the corrupt and mediocre autocrat who murdered him and devastated a generation of Russians and Ukrainians.
Today, Alexei Navalny would have turned 50. Alexei was a person of extraordinary courage, strength, and faith in people. He changed Russian politics forever, showing that those in power can be challenged, corruption can be investigated, fear can be overcome, and that a free Russia is worth fighting for even under the harshest conditions. Memorial events in Alexei’s honor will take place in cities around the world today. Check the list of events to find your city and join us: docs.google.com/spreadsheets…

Why we struggle to have nice things here: -Post evidence of Australia being a low tax jurisdiction -Fake name & pic asks Grok -Grok verifies Australia a low tax jurisdiction -Faker asks variations trying to get answer he wants -Grok won’t lie so faker casts suspicion on Grok
