When I was a founder, I thought that pretty much all VCs were lazy. Their lives seemed easy--just sit around a conference room, say yes or no to a bunch of founders, and maybe leave work early to play some golf. That might be true for some VCs, but since joining this side of the table 8 years ago, I've learned that most VCs are actually hustling quite hard. Especially if you are starting your own fund from scratch. I did something I've never done before--invite a filmmaker into my home to follow me for an entire day of work at @HustleFundVC. I'm so grateful to @willsclips_ for documenting this day-in-the-life video. We had a full 14-hour-day, and Will did an exceptional job showing highlights of what life as an emerging manager actually looks like. This job I have is relentless, and it's also the most purpose-driven role I've ever had. Grateful to my team, founders, investors, angels, and ecosystem partners for the community we've built at Hustle Fund. Hope you can check out the full documentary. This is biblical. A woman in her eighties. Ten years into Alzheimer's. Hadn't spoken a full sentence in five years. Takes one, 5 gram dose of psilocybin. She slept 19 hours and woke up and spoke for hours about her life, recognized family and held real conversations. She regained bladder control after five years, walked on her own. and dressed herself. Gains held for weeks.

This FIRE movement has gotten pretty warped. FIRE was originally tied to minimalism, with an emphasis on learning to spend less (and learn to spend only toward the things you truly value) in the pursuit of saving more to achieve full financial independence, sooner. But FatFIRE increasingly seems like the default. Make a massive bag so you can spend a lot in retirement. Huge conspicuous consumption as a retirement goal isn't my cup of tea, but I speak only for myself...

for context: i joined the team 4 weeks ago when i started Flex was processing $7.5B in annualized TPV. today we’re at $9.1B that’s a $1.6B increase in just 4 weeks. if we maintain a similar pace we’ll be on track to reach $100B in annualized TPV within ~36 months.
