Will we witness an AlphaFold moment for functional protein engineering and design? Will we solve the protein design problem — that is, the ability to create tailor-made functional proteins on demand — once and for all? go.nature.com/4bLthb0rdcu.be/dy2d5
Over 4 years in the making, I am excited to share our pre-print on the “In-cell structure and snapshots of copia retrotransposons in intact tissue by cryo-electron tomography”. We used cryo-ET to resolve the copia capsid structure to subnanometer resolution inside cells. A 🧵
🔬 Our lab at @Cambridge_Uni is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and skilled postdoc experienced in stem cell biology to investigate how cell size and cell cycle affect cell fate decisions in self-renewal/differentiation. Please email me if interested (zatulovskiylab.org).
ALT Effects of cell size on stem cell fate decisions.
(A) During embryo development, stem cells make numerous decisions to divide, self-renew, or differentiate, and these decisions have to be accurately controlled.
(B) Cell-size-dependent changes in key protein concentrations can bias stem cell fate decisions – e.g., by shifting the balance between pluripotency and differentiation transcription factors.
Our Group Leader Julian König has been accepted to join the prestigious #Heisenberg Programme of the @dfg_public. The position includes funding for his research on posttranscriptional mechanisms of #RNAregulation and how they contribute to #ageing and disease. Congrats Julian!
To kick off our 2024 centenary celebrations @ericmiska and Departmental Administrator Katherine Wallington unveil a new identity for the Department outside the Sanger Building. 🎉🍾🥂
