What I love about the new "X" rebrand now it's live is that someone on the engineering team forgot to change not only the browser icon in the tab but also the apple/android app icon in the HTML header. The #LarryTheBird still lives on!

I've built my PhD research around the Twitter API, and today's announcement has saddened me. Arguments can be made that access to such a rich dataset is invaluable and researchers should pay, but those one-off social science projects without funding will seriously suffer.

I would max the $2.5k per month tier than 1-day collecting data around a 30km radius of London. Uni's bring lots of money in from Students, but that doesn't translate to money to buy access to datasets like this. Research (no matter your views on the source) will suffer.

It looks like it could be around ~$100 p/m. Still kills innovation and an ecosystem which has allowed many students and scientists access to build skills, validate and test ideas.
