X-Ray Vision in @WebXREngine ! Showing a character inside a building ๐Ÿšถ Our colleague @Sorskoot recently completed a project, successfully recreating a visual effect in @WebXREngine . In strategy games, visibility is crucial. We want to know where characters are housed within buildings, even when obscured by walls. To achieve this, @Sorskoot manipulated the pipeline orders and depth buffer handling in @WebXREngine . ๐Ÿ‘“ Dual Pipeline Render Approach: By rendering the character twice with distinct pipelinesโ€”one performing 'greater or equal' tests on the depth bufferโ€”a unique material is showcased. This mechanism ensures that characters remain visible behind walls in a radiant blue hue, essentially enabling an X-Ray vision effect! This enhances gameplay realism and offers players an unobstructed view of critical game elements. Light Beyond the First Bounce โ˜€๏ธ Bake Realism Into Your Scene In the realm of 3D graphics, direct lighting is what we're familiar withโ€”it computes just the first bounce of light. However, real-world light behaves differently, bouncing off surfaces in a phenomenon called Global Illumination (GI). So why limit ourselves to a single bounce? It boils down to speed, which is critical in 3D rendering. However, through techniques like Baked Global Illumination, we can capture better how lights truly behave. @WebXREngine Engine will supports static global illumination using probe volumesโ€”often known as Irradiance Volume or Voxel GI in other editorsโ€”in the upcoming 1.4.0 release. This feature was brought to life by @DavidPeicho Peicho, and a probe volume baking tool will also be available to streamline the workflow and enhance your lighting setup. Transforming 2D sprites into 3D assets ๐Ÿ’ฅ Our colleague @Sorskoot just wrapped up an awesome project! He created a component that generates a 3D mesh from a sprite texture. @Sorskoot got this idea while working on one of his game concepts. He wanted to add various unique weapons using sprites from a pack. Instead of keeping them flat, he leveled up by giving them depth and dimension. Now they look dynamic and ready for action in 3D! โš”๏ธ Whatโ€™s a sprite?
