A huge part of building a sustainable economy is reducing what ends up in landfills. In sectors like agriculture — where scaling down production isn’t always feasible — the answer could lie in transforming waste into value. Meet Brisil and Cancrie, two #ACTForEnvironment portfolio startups, that are leading the way in circular innovation by turning agricultural waste into valuable materials. Brisil, founded by Tanmay Pandya, converts rice husk ash into green precipitated silica and activated carbon, which are essential ingredients in several manufacturing industries — from tyres to toothpaste to pharmaceuticals. Cancrie, founded by Akshay Jain and Mahi Singh, gives new life to coconut shells and other biomass by converting them into nano-carbons that enhance battery efficiency and lifespan, powering cleaner, longer-lasting energy storage solutions. Plastic pollution is an undeniable part of our present, but it need not be an inevitable part of our future. Every minute, our world staggers just a little bit more under the weight of environmental harm caused by both the manufacture and disposal of plastic. But as #ACTForEnvironment, we find hope in #socialentrepreneurs who are building greener tech-first alternatives to existing products and practices. As well as in ecosystem leaders who are proactively choosing to adopt these alternatives and become more sustainable. Because meaningful change doesn’t take forever, nor is it impossible. It only needs the will to act. Together. @GoZerocircle @APChemi_com @SuhasDixit81 #WorldEnvironmentDay2025 #CoFoundersOfSocialChange #BeatPlasticPollution

#MeetOurSuperstarFounders | Divanshu Kumar and Moinak Banerjee, @solinas_in Every day, we lose litres and litres of water to preventable issues — from leaky pipelines and contamination to ageing infrastructure. As these systems strain under pressure, sanitation workers still put themselves at risk to keep them running. Solinas, an #ACTForEnvironment startup, is working to change that. Their R-Bot, is a robotic system that can inspect and clean large sewer lines while detecting leaks and blockages in real time. Powered by Swasth, their AI platform, it provides predictive insights to help cities take action before problems get worse. Running water is great….till it runs out. According to the World Bank, India has 18% of the world’s population, but only 4% of its water resources, making it among the most water-stressed in the world. Given that our demand is expected to outpace our supply by 70%, we’re estimated to be at the brink of a severe water shortage by 2030. But the future isn’t set in stone. Tech-first innovations on wastewater recycling, sewage treatment, rainwater harvesting, and water-efficient agriculture have the potential to turn the tide and help Bharat progress on its #watersecurity goals. If you're an early stage #startup building a tech-led solution to address water scarcity with industrial or agricultural applications, reach out to us at environment@actgrants.in! #WorldWaterDay #CoFoundersOfSocialChange #ACTForEnvironment #WaterConservation

#ACTuallyAwesome | Alankrita Khera Alankrita’s career has been shaped by unstoppable ambition and deep curiosity. She started in broadcast media with organisations like Bloomberg, Times Television & Viacom18 and quickly realised that she loved problem-solving and wanted to be in the thick of the action—not at a distance. She thrived in the fast paced environments, wearing multiple hats and experiencing firsthand what it meant to build something from scratch. But over time, she found herself asking—could this same entrepreneurial energy be used to solve deeper, messier problems? Once she started exploring impact, she never looked back. Education felt like a familiar place to start, and she dove right in. She spent years shaping campaigns, driving fundraising, and understanding change at both a deep and systemic level through her work at CRY and Teach For India. With ACT, Alankrita saw the opportunity to work with founders in a way that fused entrepreneurial rigour with deep mission-alignment—and she knew she had to be part of it. As Director of #ACTForEnvironment and #ACTPlatform, she embodies the value of having an entrepreneurial mindset—taking risks, learning fast, and creating magic. She believes in building with intention, knowing real change takes time, but every step forward counts. When she’s out of office, she returns with wild travel stories, pictures of breathtaking deep sea dives, or new artwork made with her son. Her true superpower? Being fully present. Deeply empathetic, she inspires trust, confidence, and clarity in everyone around her, and hopes that everyone can truly think of themselves as someone who can make a difference to what they care about. In ACT terminology, may everyone realise they are indeed #CoFoundersOfSocialChange! #ThisIsUs

#MeetOurSuperstarFounders | Amrit Om Nayak and Krunal Patel, Founders, Indra Water is at the heart of everything—industry, agriculture, and daily life. Yet, billions of litres are wasted every day due to inefficient treatment, putting immense pressure on our already depleting resources. Traditional treatment systems come with major challenges—they take time, break down frequently, and generate harmful sludge that adds to environmental damage. Indra Water is changing this with its wastewater treatment system that works faster, more reliably, and without hazardous byproducts. By treating water at the source, it enables industries and large complexes to recycle and reuse water efficiently, reducing dependency on freshwater and cutting down pollution. Indra, a part of the #ACTForEnvironment portfolio, is on a mission to treat upto 300,000,000 litres of #wastewater a day.
