🏋🏻 If you're into Olympic lifting, you NEED to know this.🏋🏻
Most people track bar speed for squats and bench, but what about Olympic lifts? Almost no one is talking about velocity-based training (VBT) for snatches and cleans. And yet, understanding the velocity of your 1RM could be the key to optimizing your training.
Here’s what the data tells us so far:
✅ Peak velocity > mean velocity – Unlike other lifts, Olympic lifts behave like jumps: the higher the bar travels, the less weight you’re moving. That’s why peak velocity is the better metric.
✅ Athlete height matters – A taller lifter needs the bar to travel further, meaning they need higher peak velocity to hit the same lift. Makes sense, right?
We’re still diving into the research, but for now, here’s a cheat sheet for peak velocity on a 1RM clean – SAVE IT for later! 📩
