The 5 Pillars of Effective Support: 🤝 Relationship First: Students don't learn from people they don't feel safe with. When a student feels seen and respected, they are more likely to stay regulated. 🧠 Proactive Regulation: It’s about offering emotional support before a spark becomes a fire. If we wait for the escalation, we’ve already missed the window for learning. 🏫 Explicit Modelling: We can’t expect skills we haven't taught. We must explicitly model, narrate, and reinforce what "good choices" actually look like in practice. 📈 Praising the Process: Don’t just reward the finished product. Praise the effort, the incremental progress, and the moment a student chooses a better path. 🗣️ Behaviour as Communication: Defiance is often just a loud way of saying "I’m overwhelmed," "I’m frustrated," or "I don't understand." When we bridge the gap between accountability and empathy, we don't just manage a classroom/team — we build a community.
