The Bible is filled with examples and consequences. Consider the Israelites after their exodus from Egypt. God performed numerous miracles to secure their freedom, but how did they respond? 1 Corinthians 10 lays it out plainly:
- They made an idol, sat down to eat, rose up to play, and committed sexual immorality, leading to thousands of deaths.
- They tempted God with complaints, and God sent serpents. But those who looked upon the bronze serpent were healed, symbolizing Jesus. Today, looking to Jesus offers salvation and freedom.
Be cautious and learn from these biblical examples; you don't have to repeat their mistakes. When tempted, remember God's promised, He won't let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, and He will provide an escape route. If you can't see a way out, you can endure a little longer.
Be thankful for living in a time of grace, where God isn't sending immediate judgment as in Old Testament times. Yet, this doesn't mean there are no consequences for sin.
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
I Corinthians 10: 12-13
