@PatsKarvelas thinks we shouldn’t clarify the legal definition of “woman”.
In this ABC interview, Karvelas pushes back on changing the Sex Discrimination Act to enshrine what a woman actually is, an adult human female, a biological human being with XX chromosomes.
She calls it out as having “huge implications for transgender women,” (AKA Men), as if stating biological reality somehow erases people instead of protecting the 50% of the population who are actually female.
Let’s be crystal clear, human sex is binary and determined at conception by chromosomes:
XX 🟰 female, XY 🟰 male.
This is not “hate,” it's not “controversial,” and not up for debate in basic biology or reproductive science. Rare disorders of sex development (like Turner syndrome XO or Klinefelter XXY) are medical exceptions, they don’t rewrite the rule for the other 99.98% of humans. Courts, sports bodies, and prisons have always operated on this until ideology took over.
Australia removed the explicit biological definitions of “man” and “woman” from the Sex Discrimination Act in 2013. The Coalition’s push to restore them is a rare dose of clarity from a Party with no clear position on anything. It’s about safeguarding female only spaces, public toilets, change rooms, girls’ schools, women’s shelters, sports, and prisons.
Karvelas’s delusional stance, framing clear biological definitions as somehow extreme or needing endless “inquiries” to tiptoe around feelings, is exactly why women and girls are losing privacy, safety, and fair play.
Biological males in female toilets and change rooms, boys dominating girls’ sports, and female prisoners sharing cells with rapists who “identify” as women. Pretending sex is “blurred” or optional doesn’t make the physical differences disappear, it just steals rights from females so that confused males can "feel affirmed".
Sex-based rights exist because males and females are not interchangeable. Ignoring that isn’t compassionate, it’s a reckless denial of reality that prioritises a tiny minority’s feelings over the safety and opportunities of half the population.
Edge cases like intersex conditions don’t invalidate the binary, they prove why clear legal lines are needed, not vague “self-ID” that lets anyone go anywhere.
This isn’t abstract philosophy. It’s about whether Australian women and girls get to keep single sex protections that every generation before us took for granted.
Denying basic biology to appease ideological confusion is not progressive, it’s regressive and anti-woman.
Time to restore the definition.
Biology isn’t bigotry.
Protect women’s spaces.
Protect girls’ sports.
Protect reality.
What do you think, Australia?🇦🇺
