Canadian founders should take a 2-minute read with this! Around March this year, in Toronto, Canada and the EU opened formal negotiations for a Digital Trade Agreement. Note, before then, Canada and Germany had also signed a Joint Declaration on AI and launched a sovereign technology alliance. Since then, more than 40% of the €51 billion services trade between the two regions is already delivered digitally. This says one thing: The corridor is open, and even wider. The infrastructure is being laid in real time. And the majority of Canadian Series A and B founders we’ve had conversations with this year still default to one expansion plan: south. This is not a moral argument about geography. It is a market one. The European buyer is actively DE-RISKING dependence on US technology, especially for Canada. The political will is signed. The trade architecture is being modernised. The doors that were polite are now propped open. The Canadian companies that move on this in the next 12 months will be the ones with European references when the agreement is signed. The ones who wait will be the ones explaining, in 2028, why they only ever launched in New York. At The Oxford Comma, we focus exclusively on this corridor. Canadian tech into European markets, city by city, through operators who already live there. If you are late seed, post-Series A, post-PMF, and you've been postponing the conversation about Canada and Europe, that is the conversation worth having now. This is peak #canadiantech. I mean he got up and made a decision to wear a tank top on stage @TOtechweek for what was supposed to be a serious event. And the event let him. No wonder the world doesn't take us seriously anymore. #whatajokewevebecome

So, we came up with the solution for Canadian techs trying to expand/launch to Europe, but there is a phrase I have been pushing back on lately: "launching in Europe." You do not launch in Europe. You launch in Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, or Madrid. The buyer in each city does not behave like the others. The EU has 24 official languages and 27 member states. In SaaS specifically, the UK, Germany, and France account for 54% of European SaaS M&A in 2025 YTD, according to GP Bullhound's European SaaS Report 2025. Your "European launch" is really several distinct launches. This is where you need people who understand launching in Europe through and through. Europe knows this and is working on it. In May 2025, the European Commission launched a new Single Market Strategy with a roadmap to 2028. The Letta and Draghi reports both name fragmentation as the continent's biggest self-inflicted barrier. So this is not a story about Europe being too hard. It is a story about timing and technical know-how. Until that unified market arrives, you do not have to wait for it. We figured it out. YES! You launch into the Europe that exists today, market by market, with the expertise of people who already know how each one works. That’s where we come in at The Oxford Comma! - pre-launch website is live! Link in the comment. #CanadianTech #EuropeanExpansion #SaaSGrowth

I have spent this week working alongside the two incredible people I am building this with. We kept circling the same question. Why does Canadian tech default to one direction? The numbers are already shifting. The US share of Canadian goods exports dropped to 71.7% in 2025, down from 75.9% the year before. The macro is moving. The expansion playbook has not caught up. Look east. The European SaaS market is on track to reach roughly $60 billion in 2025, growing at about 18% a year. According to EuroSaaS Edge's Q4 2025 analysis, Europe just crossed 10,000 SaaS companies for the first time. That is not a quiet, slow market. That is a deeper, more distributed buyer base than most Canadian founders have in their pipeline. So why is "expansion strategy" still shorthand for "go south"? Don't get me wrong, this isn't "the US is not wrong." It is the only option being taken seriously. That gap is what we have spent the week designing for. More to share over the coming weeks. #CanadianTech #EuropeanExpansion #ProductMarketing #StartupGrowth #B2BSaaS

Great article by @VassB France is making a bold move toward digital sovereignty — phasing out Microsoft Teams and Zoom in favour of sovereign infrastructure hosted on French-controlled cloud. Around the world, governments are reassessing reliance on foreign technology platforms, particularly in light of the U.S. CLOUD Act and growing geopolitical uncertainty. Canada is having that conversation too. As Prime Minister Mark Carney recently added sovereign cloud to Canada’s nation-building priorities, the message is clear: digital infrastructure is now strategic infrastructure. At Railtown AI, we believe the next layer of sovereignty isn’t just cloud — it’s AI. Who governs the models? Where is the data processed? Under which laws does that intelligence operate? We are building Canadian AI infrastructure with our partners, to ensure data, intellectual property, and innovation remain governed by Canadian law — while enabling enterprises and public institutions to deploy AI securely and at scale. Digital sovereignty won’t happen overnight. But it will be built — layer by layer. Canada has the talent. Canada has the capital. Now we need the infrastructure. The question isn’t whether this shift is coming. It’s whether we choose to lead it. #DigitalSovereignty #AIInfrastructure #SovereignCloud #CanadianTech #BuildInCanada stocks.apple.com/AYhLk0xSdS9…
