This is the reality.
As I was preparing for tomorrow’s outreach, my phone rang. It was a number I didn’t recognise. I answered and was immediately met with the voice of a woman, completely broken, crying down the line:
“Come and get my dog… I’m going to kill myself.”
Moments like this shake you to your core. The desperation in her voice… the pain… the feeling of helplessness on the other end of the phone. It’s a call I will never forget.
I immediately contacted the police and requested an urgent welfare check and provided the phone number that the lady called me from. I told them if there’s anything we can do to help with the dog, to call us straight back. I am praying truly praying that this woman is found safe and is now getting the support she so desperately needs.
This is more than outreach. This is more than homelessness. This is the raw, unseen side of what so many people are silently battling and why we must always lead with compassion, not judgement.
If you’re struggling, please reach out. You're not alone. There is help. There is hope. 🙏
