Many technical and more importantly, safety and RF certification angles to look at, and this example shown, breaks most of them. We had this, and much more, back in the day of Daqri Smart Helmet. A certification engineer, myself and our team worked through all of these but at a cost. So much innovation and technology which was unfortunately too far ahead of its time - albeit, only 10 years ago!

Man this is crazy. When I was working at Daqri the company was helping Crayola build 'color alive AR' app, kids color into a book and then see their drawing come to life as prebaked and animated models, that would use their drawings as the texture. We've come so so far

They all get equity too, that is not being factored in. Btw I left @SpaceX when my daughter was born, intending to take some time off. I got lured in to work at a hot tech startup called DAQRI. I wasn’t looking for a job, I was looking to chill w my newborn. But they offered a salary which was 70% more than I was making at SpaceX (might’ve been 69%, it was a ton more), stock, work from home as much as I want, unlimited personal time off….it was a deal too good to be true. And it was! They pretty quickly went out of business - probably because they were overpaying everybody massively. Shit they flew me to the UK FIRST CLASS when I would’ve been stoked with just a window seat. My point is that lower salaries, but more stock/equity is the right incentive structure. Ensures that the people you’re getting are there for the right reasons.

In AR its even worse, look at Hololens, Magic leap, Daqri, ODG... cementery of technology :(

from what I've read about Daqri it was even worse there. she seems to have put the company headquarters in Hollywood because, well, narcissist. it was that bad

I worked for the woman who co-founded Daqri, on her rebound job. Total nightmare, she was like a child who was playing office, honestly probably had narcissistic personality disorder

That’s the Daqri smart helmet, it was an AR headset for industrial uses, it even had a thermal camera! Pretty low FOV and crude but this was pre-HoloLens

nah apple would lock me in the gulag for that, the second and third photos are from 2014-2015ish of the Daqri smart helmet I worked on, the one photo is in Kazakhstan in a steel mill, the last is the oculus DK1 from 2013

It’s really cool to see all of these on-hand-ui systems coming out of head worn AR/VR and into a projector like this. We talked about doing this at Daqri in 2015 but the tech just wasn’t there. I’m not optimistic this is the right direction for HCI but I’m glad they’re FAFO’ing
