So I have 2 weeks to train and then I shall implementing needed changes the position shouldn't just be a paperwork and bookkeeping it should also include a dedicated cleaning shift for the facility the plumbing is bad it's a old building so it would require there's tons of cleaning supplies but it would need like a Swiffer and it could use like a of edification as well for people that keep their shifts and honor them regularly it could be done in once a month or whenever their reports are due to the overseers when they look over it at the meetings when we have the council meetings you go over who kept their shifts who attended their meetings and stuff like that and so it could easily become a reward system to encourage people and also just to to give people proper acknowledgment not just consequences for the people that don't do what they're supposed to as well incentives or whatever LOL

He states what the Church itself does and does not do. “As then the Church reads Judith, Tobit, and the books of Maccabees, but does not admit them among the canonical Scriptures, so let it read these two volumes for the edification of the people, not to give authority to doctrines of the Church.” That statement sat in the Vulgate Bibles copied and used across the West for over a thousand years. Popes, bishops, and the magisterium left it in place with zero official correction or removal.

Jerome isn’t “a witness to a canon discussion.” He states what the Church itself does and does not do.

Jerome is not giving his private scholarly opinion on what the canon should be. He is stating what the Church actually does. As then the Church reads Judith Tobit and the books of Maccabees but does not admit them among the canonical Scriptures so let it read these two volumes for the edification of the people not to give authority to doctrines of the Church. That description was not buried in a personal letter. It sat in the prologues of the Vulgate the standard Bible of the Western Church for over a thousand years. Popes used those Bibles. Bishops used those Bibles. The faithful used those Bibles. And for a thousand years no pope no council and no magisterium corrected the prologues or declared those books canonical Scripture. Your list of later councils does not erase that record. Hippo and Carthage were regional.

Augustine disagreeing helps my case. I am thrilled he disagreed. It’s helps highlight a larger and more important point. Where does Jerome indicate he’s not speaking technically? He literally says: “As, then, 👉the Church👈 reads Judith, Tobit, and the books of Maccabees, but does not admit them among the canonical Scriptures, so let it read these two volumes [Wisdom and Sirach] for the edification of the people, not to give authority to doctrines of 👉the Church👈.” He’s not only speaking technically, he’s literally instructing the church. This was included in the bibles for a thousand years. No pushback from Popes or magi

It doesn’t say anything about Jerome’s opinion. Jerome doesn’t say “in my opinion”. He says: “As, then, 👉the Church👈 reads Judith, Tobit, and the books of Maccabees, but does not admit them among the canonical Scriptures, so let it read these two volumes [Wisdom and Sirach] for the edification of the people, not to give authority to doctrines of 👉the Church👈.”

My aunt when she worked in Enid said that the police set their own salary to whatever they wanted, refused to pay for benefits, and asked to see the entire accounting record to investigate everyone else for sheer edification and to make sure they had the biggest paycheck.

Contemporary, traditional, spontaneous, liturgical, a cappella or instrumental … The problem with the ongoing “worship” wars is that all sides miss some central truths. Although the New Testament has a lot to say about Christians assembling together … No where does it include “worship” as an element of our gatherings. Nope, not, nada … Just ain’t there. Yes, we are told to sing praises to God … But for the sole purpose of encouraging one another, rather than as an act of “worship.” You might be further surprised to learn that the New Testament Greek words translated as “worship” don’t mean singing. Instead, they specifically refer to the temple rituals of prostration and animal sacrifice … But not New Testament gatherings of believers. In fact, the current idea of Christians literally going to “God’s House” to “worship” at a “service” is utterly missing from the New Testament. Rather, we are repeatedly commanded to simply gather for mutual edification and to build each other up … Through horizontal ministry one to another as the multi-part, multi-gifted Body of Christ. That’s a far cry from “church” as we’ve come to know it … Regardless of how you otherwise might want to define “worship.” The question, then, is should this change our current notions of “church” and why we gather … And if so, how? I know for us, it makes a huge difference. What about you?

I don’t need to reconcile Augustine. I am thrilled to show disagreement. Jerome was the church’s greatest scholar. Jerome stated in writing: “As, then, 👉the Church👈 reads Judith, Tobit, and the books of Maccabees, but does not admit them among the canonical Scriptures, so let it read these two volumes [Wisdom and Sirach] for the edification of the people, not to give authority to doctrines of 👉the Church👈.” That statement was in writing in the very bibles used by popes and magisterium for a thousand years with absolutely ZERO official pushback from popes or magisterium. ZERO.

Jerome doesn’t say it was his personal canon distinction. He says “the church”. “As, then, 👉the Church👈 reads Judith, Tobit, and the books of Maccabees, but does not admit them among the canonical Scriptures, so let it read these two volumes [Wisdom and Sirach] for the edification of the people, not to give authority to doctrines of 👉the Church👈.”

"For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort."
