A brave Nigerian man publicly confronted police officers in Ikom, Cross River State over alleged extortion and harassment — only to reportedly witness one of the officers wrapping wɛɛd while on active duty. Extortion, intimidation, harassment, and bullying have quietly become some of the biggest menaces in Nigeria society today.
From the streets to workplaces, schools to public institutions, too many people face threats, pressure, and abuse of power just to live their daily lives. This culture of fear is holding us back as a nation.

Secretary General expresses deep concern over the brutal killing of laguna driver Nur Alam
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar issued a statement today, 22 February expressing deep concern and issuing strong condemnation and protest over the brutal incident of beating to death of laguna driver Nur Alam, also known as Khairul Islam, on the Jatrabari–Chittagong Road in the capital.
In the statement, he said that the long-standing allegations of extortion on one of the busiest roads of the capital are extremely alarming. There are complaints that money is regularly collected from public transport drivers in the name of various organizations have raised serious questions about the dignity and credibility of the state and administration. In continuation of this situation, on Friday, 20 February, at around 3:00 pm, laguna driver Nur Alam, also known as Khairul Islam, was brutally beaten to death on the Jatrabari–Chittagong road in the capital, reportedly over refusal to pay extortion money or disputes related to control of transport stands. Such a killing is completely unacceptable in the new Bangladesh shaped by public expectations following the fall of the oppressive former government. He expressed strong condemnation and protest against this brutal murder and conveyed deep concern.
He further stated that regardless of whether the killing was carried out due to extortion, or any other reason, those involved must be arrested immediately and brought to exemplary punishment. At the same time, allegations of extortion in the transport sector in Jatrabari–Chittagong Road and other parts of the capital must be investigated impartially, and the responsible individuals must be brought under the law.
He added that Khairul was the sole earning member of his family. The cries of his helpless dependents, including his young daughter and relatives, demonstrate that this incident is not merely the loss of a life but the tragic end of a family’s dreams and future prospects. Such incidents create deep anxiety regarding the country’s law-and-order situation and the safety of ordinary citizens.
Expressing deep condolences to the family of the deceased Khairul, Secretary General further said that the government must immediately provide appropriate financial assistance to the affected family and ensure their security. Finally, he strongly urged the government to take effective and permanent measures to end the culture of extortion, terrorism, and illegal occupation across the country, including in the transport sector.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed that people accused of serious crimes, including extortion, can still face arrest, charges, and removal, even if they file a refugee claim.
Public safety must always come first.
Victims deserve justice.
And our communities deserve to feel safe.
The asylum system exists to protect people fleeing real danger, not to be exploited by those who threaten, extort, or harm others.
Surrey residents are right to expect accountability, and I will continue to push for firm action to ensure criminals face consequences. No loopholes. No excuses.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) expresses its deep concern and strong condemnation over the alarming incident in which four rounds of firing were carried out by gangsters outside the residence of renowned Bollywood producer and filmmaker Mr. Rohit Shetty in Mumbai.
This incident is not an isolated case. Repeated firing incidents are taking place in Mumbai, often in broad daylight, clearly indicating that law and order in the city has severely deteriorated.
Mumbai, once known for its safety and strong policing, is no longer the city it used to be, as crime continues to rise and fear spreads across society.
Had even one bullet struck Mr. Rohit Shetty or any innocent individual, who would have taken responsibility for this grave failure?
Even more concerning is the fact that no clear information has emerged so far regarding the attackers, their origin, or their escape, raising serious questions about policing, intelligence failure, and accountability.
Over the past months, several prominent Bollywood personalities have been targeted—Baba Siddiqui, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Kapil Sharma, and now Rohit Shetty.
This pattern reflects a systematic attempt to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation within the film industry, primarily aimed at extortion by gangster networks.
Bollywood contributes thousands of crores in taxes every year and plays a vital role in India’s cultural and economic identity.
Despite this, the industry is being left vulnerable, with Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra government under the leadership of Honourable Chief Minister and Home Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis ji failing to effectively control crime and maintain law and order.
AICWA is compelled to ask:
Is Mumbai being pushed back towards an era of underworld dominance and organised crime?
If immediate and firm action is not taken, such incidents will only embolden criminal elements further.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) therefore urgently appeals to the Honourable Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji to:
•Order a high-level, time-bound investigation into the firing outside Mr. Rohit Shetty’s residence
•Ensure adequate and permanent security for Mr. Rohit Shetty
•Provide comprehensive protection to the entire Bollywood film industry
•Fix clear responsibility and accountability for repeated failures in maintaining law and order in Mumbai
The Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra Home Department led by Shri Devendra Fadnavis ji have failed to instill confidence among citizens and the film fraternity.
Today, the entire Bollywood industry looks towards the Central Government for protection, justice, and decisive intervention.
Gangster intimidation, extortion threats, and firing incidents must be stopped immediately.
The safety, dignity, and lives of film industry professionals—and citizens of Mumbai—cannot be compromised.

This is the reality we’re living in.
Surrey is now #1 for crime in Canada and #44 in the world.
That’s not a statistic to debate. That’s a warning.
I hear it every day from families and business owners in Surrey who no longer feel safe. People are changing how they live, not because they want to, but because they have to.
Yet we’re being told there is “no crisis.”
This past weekend, I stood with concerned Surrey residents at Bear Creek Park. We came together to show our solidarity, and to express the anger, fear, and disappointment over what Surrey has become.
I won’t stop calling this out.
