The Punjab School Education Department has approved a major capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening English language teaching across government schools, launching a Spoken English Language Training Program for around 35,000 teachers.
The program is designed to enhance both spoken and written English skills in line with international standards, with a focus on improving classroom instruction and boosting students’ language proficiency across the province.
Under the initiative, the department has partnered with Berlitz and the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation to deliver structured training modules tailored for school educators.
Officials say the program will begin with a mandatory English proficiency assessment, which teachers must complete through an online Google Form before enrollment. Based on the assessment results, participants will be placed into appropriate training levels.
Training sessions will be conducted at designated District PECTAA head offices and selected schools under the supervision of the Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA).
Each batch will attend classes twice a week, with sessions lasting approximately two hours and fifteen minutes.
Authorities have emphasized that full attendance will be mandatory, stating that 100% participation is essential for achieving the program’s objectives of improving teaching quality and communication skills in classrooms.
