It was fun attending @ubicomp/@ISWCNET this year in Melbourne 🇦🇺🥳. I met many great researchers doing impactful work, including both old friends and new ones. Some highlights below: 1. I presented our paper titled “M3BAT: Unsupervised Domain Adaptation for Multimodal Mobile Sensing with Multi-Branch Adversarial Training,” demonstrating how domain adaptation techniques can address multimodal distribution shifts in the real world. It is very important to go beyond in-lab experiments to see how models can be adapted with in-the-wild data, and this is one of the first steps in that direction. Excited for see what lies ahead this line of research. 2. I co-organized #FairComp, where we had fruitful discussions on a range of #UbiComp adjacent topics, including #Fairness, #Robustness, #Generalization, and #ParticipatoryAI. 3. I was part of the program committee of @ISWCNET. We received many interesting research contributions this year, and I enjoyed reading and reviewing them. 4. Visited @MonashUni and saw some interesting projects done as part of the human-centered computing research pillar. Fun and exciting work! I look forward to next year’s UbiComp in Finland 🇫🇮!

Today, we successfully hosted the 2nd International Workshop on Fairness and Robustness in Machine Learning for Ubiquitous Computing (#FairComp) 2024, co-located with ACM @UbiComp/@ISWCNET Conference, at the stunning @SofitelMelbourn. The day was filled with insightful presentations and lively discussions, covering a broad range of key topics in the field. We kicked off with a thought-provoking keynote by @dgaticaperez titled "Participatory AI & UbiComp: For Whom? For What?" that set the tone for the day. Following this, we had an outstanding series of talks by Moh'd Khier Al Kfari, Sizhen Bian, Eunsu ­Baek, Zhiqing Hong, Hari Venugopalan, Shuoyuan Wang, and Jin Zhang, delving into critical areas such as #robustness, #generalization, and domain adaptation in #Ubicomp. On behalf of all the organizers, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the speakers and participants for making this event a success.
